Other than depressing the hell out me that we dont have him anymore thought this was a pretty interesting read and worth sharing. Certainly a different approach and probably the opposite of what you would assume is the norm.

Think he will go far in the game personally, a top bloke on and off the pitch

Jack Lester was our bogey player, it may be that time has clouded my memories but I'm fairly certain he bagged a hat-trick in every game he played against Gills for Grimsby, Forest and Chesterfield.

He was an irritating fucker that's for sure. Dirty as you like as well.

Following extensive investigation of his career, he played against Gills 18 times in his career bagging 7 goals. Only one hat-trick. Time has indeed messed with my mind maaaaaaaaaaaan.

Don't think he did for us. Think his only hattricks were against Oldham and Carlisle for us. He wasn't that prolific for us really, still kind of finding his feet. You could definitely see his potential though and was a fans' favourite, despite only ever really scoring 9 or 10 goals a season.

Absolute prick. Hated him ever since he stamped on Graham Alexander at Forest and Alexander and Murdock both got sent off. Barry fucking Knight.

He loved a goal against us, too.

He was offered to us at the end of the 2006/07 season and wasn't far off being done, but Schofield decided he didn't want him. Admittedly, we had Forrester and Stallard at the time, but still.

The perfect hat trick he scored at Sincil is up there with my favourite Spireites goals

He was a very good lower league player (nothing more nothing less) who appears to have turned into an extremely idealistic coach.

Tuesday night? Remember it well. Probably only topped by his one against Stockport on NYD.

Lester was a very good player, who normally scored against us.

The game I remember is the one he didn't. He spent the whole game in close proximity to Dale defender Nathan "The Red Mist Descends" Stanton, who had evidently decided that Lester WASN'T going to score, whatever else happened. (It did, Chesterfield won 1-0, but AN Other scored).

What was amazing was that neither picked up even a yellow card, despite spending the entire game niggling, shoving, kicking and shirt pulling the other. Either the ref didn't notice (and neither complained - it was a personal duel and outside interference wasn't welcome), or, more likely, he realised that they were both happy doing what they were doing and intervening would potentially cause one or the other to go over the top, therefore laissez faire applied...:-)

My favourite moment, and there weren't many of them where Lester was involved, was skying a late penalty to bring the game to 2-2 at SB.

That's the only occasion the whole of SB sung 'One Jack Lester...'!
