Since the upgrade, the site has been extremely sluggish for me. Granted, I'm on shitty hotel wifi but every other website doesn't seem to be affected.

Not sure if it's the fact half of each page is now adverts but there's a noticeable difference in page load times.

Which version of the site are you using? Is it still the same skin as before?

I haven't been around to test but a few templates are now outdated as a result of the upgrade so this may be having an adverse affect on page load times. Advert numbers should not have increased, unless some of the old coding is no longer working on Xenforo 1.5.2.

I'll look into all of this at the weekend but just to confirm the adverts will be no more obtrusive than they currently are and furthermore they will not display whatsoever to site supporters. If that's not the case at present it will be rectified come Sunday.

All the best,
TB

^ Thinly veiled "I'm getting some" post. But yeah, there's definitely an issue here. Think ads were either non-existent or very discreet before - now there's a massive one above the shoutbox, one at the foot of the main forums page and one on the right hand side. Having still not got round to going premium I don't have much of a right to grumble but they are a BIT ANNOYING.

The ads above the shout box have been showing for me on my phone and PC for about 6 months, especially on my phone where I don't have ad blocker. They will show unless you are a site supporter - nothing has changed there, that's been protocol since we started on the ads. Not sure why people are only starting to notice them, on the mobile especially?

Perhaps they weren't setup properly before..who knows.

A question for TractorBoys

I rarely use the site on my phone but there's definitely been a noticeable change on PC/Laptop for me. If I got ads before they were only very discreet, now they seemingly dominate the top of every page.

I have an adblocker on my computer so I've had no problems on there. However on my phone, it's awful. Hopefully it'll get sorted soon.

I noticed that ads didn't show on my phone while I was using the old skin. Which is why I kept using it right up until that update the other day. Now it seems we can only use the most recent skin, meaning ads are now appearing for me.

Maybe the same for other folk too, which is why they are only just noticing the ads.

Ha, I wished. If that advert relates to my shopping history, I have questions for my wife who regularly uses my Amazon account.

I keep getting an advert for Polar Express tours in the SW somewhere as well. How well they know me...

I have no idea why it's suddenly started showing folks, but it's probably some sort of error that it hasn't been showing for months already - it's been like it for me since about July time. Unfortunately, unless you are a site supporter the ad at the top is going to be staying there, it should have been there already anyway. The rest of the ads are blocked out of view around the site when logged in, but the main header ad is the most viewed/most worthwhile ad. Are people only getting this ad when they navigate around the site?

The only alternative I can suggest is going back to the old skin/using phone ad blocker.

Can people check whether it's just this ad they are getting?

I'm not getting the option to switch skin anymore. TBH mate the ad doesn't bother me personally. I'm just chiming in to try to help with questions asked by others really.

Definitely no different skin option. No adblock option for my phone yet (Windows). Pages take an age to load and blocking images doesn't speed things up that much.

The ad's shouldn't be showing for you. That's just a group resolution that needs sorting so there's no need for you to worry specifically.

No bother. It sounds like I'm being slightly arsey and that's not how I'm meaning to come across.

To clarify - the main homepage ad SHOULD have been showing months ago, it's only error that's stopped it showing - it's there to stay permanently as it's the most viewed ad on site. There shouldn't be ads at the top of every forum page though so I can see why that's annoying and that will be sorted, it should only be there one one page.

Don't think you're coming across arsey SR. One thing I've noticed is that the ad stretches the screen on my phone. It's not a problem but would look neater if it fitted across the top like the logo and I could also see the ad properly which is what I guess the advertiser wants.

Do you get money if people click on it?

Not if people click on it directly - we get paid for the amount of people who view it in 90% of cases (IE We get a fee per 1,000 people who see the ad - CPM it's called - cost per impression) and in the case of Amazon anyone who converts and purchases something gives us a direct commission.

Good, didn't want to be seen as coming across like an arsehole.
