Sony Vaio - Recurring HD Failures - Why?

I have had my Sony Vaio for just over 2 years and I've had to replace the hard drive 5 times in that period- one day it simply ceases to work and comes back corrupt, irrespective of formatting and windows reinstallation attempts. I've read online this could be to do with the power cables connected to the HD?

How easy would these be to replace, and could there be other reasons for the recurring issues (ie the board itself?). It's getting to the stage now where I don't know whether to scrap the laptop and buy a new one but it's an i5 and runs at insane speed whilst the HD's last.

5 hard drives wouldn't fail within 2 years, so I think as you say you either have dodgy cabling between drive and system board, or the connection on the system board is faulty.

I would imagine you can buy the cable between the drive and the board, they are normally extremely easy to swap.

When your drives are 'failing', are you able to see them within BIOS? If so, have you ran any hardware diagnostics on them?
