What nonsense is this? Unfair to relegate them because nobody is being relegated from the conference? What difference does it make? Then presumably it would be unfair to relegate teams from League One if there's no relegation from League Two, and so on until there's no relegation anywhere.

I’m not sure how this would work? Are they suggesting there should be no promotion from the NL to keep the numbers in the EFL as is? There’s no relegation from the NL because Macc were expelled and who knows what’s going to happen with Dover, which frees up two spots. Or am I completely misreading this?

It’s been discussed on other threads today downstairs, yes they are suggesting the competition of the national league is in question with there being no relegation. What the knock on suggestion is though, which would be deeply unfair, is that there should be no promotion from there either.

I get their point of view, and no doubt if we’d been relegated I’d be trying to clutch any straw that I could. That’d be a real sickener though, particularly for the likes of Sutton, to deny them a possible chance at promotion. I can’t see this proposal having any legs to be honest and can see it being very quickly dismissed.

It’s a pretty dismal way to try to stay up, I’m sure we’d try it ourselves in the same situation, but I’d still be pretty fucked off.

Probably something any club would do, it reeks of desperation.

Neither side will come close to challenging for some while you’d imagine.

Bet they can’t wait for a cold tuesday night in january for an FA trophy reply against the cat and fiddle

2 clubs clutching at straws unable to accept their shortcomings and fate gracefully, very embarrassing. No chance of winning an appeal. If they did, what will they do with the 2 National League sides who have worked hard and earned their rightful place in the Football League

God reminds me of when we tried to sue Wycombe after we got relegated to NL.

We were all pretty embarrassed, as should they be.

The proceedings were started back when the Conference North/South was cancelled - so there's a good chance your club was also involved...

It’s poor from both, you’ve been shit accept it and try and bounce back. If the Southend chairman had been more arsed they’d not be down there in the first place. Good to see most of their fans slate it too.

The National League was a mess and you could say there is a point on it as with no relegation teams with nothing to play for with months to go in a season does raise questions but you know would they have challenged it if they’ve not gone down? No.

Won’t get the EFL votes needed. Focus on getting back up than wasting time and money on that.

I would say that they have good grounds based on the clusterfuck of a board running the National League, no club should be relegated to such an unstable league.

I would promote 2 and run league 2 with 26 teams next season. Fuck off the EFL Trophy to make space for the extra league games and also ditch the 20 man squad limit rule.

We took it like a boss when we went down, and we had to play Leigh RMI and compete in the conference cup. Other teams could learn a thing or two and quit whining.

If you promote 2 that invalidates their argument surely?

We’ve just been taken over by new wealthy owners who have already stated that our budget will be increased for next season to one of the top National League budgets so I would expect that we will actually be challenging consistently until we finally get back here.

As someone mentioned above apparently this has been ongoing since the NL decided no relegation, so any side near the bottom for the past few months has probably been involved it just so happens that us and Southend are now the ones seeing it through as it only affects us.

Clutching at straws yup, very unlikely to change anything yup, but I don't see Stevenage fans complaining that they stayed up last season, so if by some miracle it worked then great.

Can't see it myself unless the EFL ran with 26 in lge 2 next season and offered three down for two seasons to go back to 24, and then 3 up, 3 down from then onwards. NL would probably go for it, but doubt the other 70 EFL clubs care enough to vote it through. Despite some saying it should be 3 up from NL, the likes of Barrow, Stevenage, Mansfield and others who have been down there before but flirting with relegation back to it too often would never go for it.

I suppose Stevenage will say they were right though as Macclesfield went bust pretty quickly unfortunately.

Don’t see much coming out of this except maybe some compensation?

Can't see why you would complain about playing Leigh. You lot seemed to enjoy it.

No idea how it’ll work, might as well give it a go and all those calling it embarrassing would probably want their own club to give it a go as well.

Can’t say I can see it happening though

Dodging relegation through off the field stuff is fine by me.

Good luck to you, hope you're lifting the AGM Cup in June.

No relegation and extra teams in the leagues was suggested last season, which was curtailed. There’s been a full round of games in 2020-1, including in the NL but not lower, so can’t see a good reason why this action would succeed.

Unless you have megabucks (Salford), a big budget is no guarantee of even being near the top end. Just look at Solihull, Fylde and even Ebbsfleet and York.

They had relegation to NLN/NLS last year though - that's what this is all hinging on.

It’s a technicality (our legal system is practically based on them) but there hasn’t been a full round of games in NL given that Dover chucked in the towel.

That is a pretty good attendance, roughly twice the number who turned up when we played Hayes and Yeading at Woking...which was about ten years ago, deep in the Hockaday era, around the time that we were attracting the interest of a local windmill owner.

Oh I know it’s no guarantee and I’m not expecting to come back up straight away, it was just in response to his post about us not challenging for some time when in reality I do think we will be challenging,.
