Sure you will of all seen this on the news, absolutely bizarre.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/38717420

Find the comments at the bottom quite strange where Southend say covers and heaters were put in place, what more could the bloke have done ?

Harsh in the extreme, hope the bloke gets fixed up with a job with better employers.

Must be some others reasons surely as despite what they say people don't always lose their job after one mistake unless its gross misconduct etc.

Phil Brown didn't after a poor start to the season for Southend...

Definite case of unfair dismissal given all the other postponements in the south-east. Our game tonight is off, and we're about 10 miles as the crow flies from Southend. And we've had covers on for the past three weeks.

There is definitely more to it than just this.

Petition started by bolton fans to get him reinstated To sign the petition, visit change.org and search for 'Ken Hare'.

The petitions says: “We Bolton fans are disgusted with this and want to work together to get him his job back.

“It is always disappointing when a match is postponed, but he does not deserve to lose his job – which we are all sure he was very good at – just for this.

“Stand up for Ken and let's show what a fantastic fan base we can be. COYWM!”

It depends on the overall circumstances as we may not know the full ins and outs of it but on the face of it seems harsh if purely because of a postponement. We were the only game off last week but in no way would that be Steve Speed and his teams fault nor will he be punished.

Unless the groundsman was found to be pissing all over the pitch prior to the big freeze, this is a pretty clear case of an OTT reaction from Southend. If there are no other issues connected to this then Southend could find themselves with a hefty compensation package to pay as it appears there is some sort of union for groundsmen/women and they have requested all of the information to conduct their own investigation on his behalf

Nerd hat on. Actually if he was found pissing all over the pitch it could be deemed beneficial, it's naturally high in nitrogen so a perfectly good fertiliser. Also the warmth would have melted the surface a bit.

So there.

Don't you just love it when all these people get involved when they don't know any of the details of this case, nor any history of the guy's behaviour.

The Bolton fans reaction is hilarious.

Why not have a weekly "help a sacked guy" and then find a new job for him. It doesn't matter if he was crap at what he did, or whether he was fraudulent, or whether he was incompetent, just find him another role. Maybe the first job could be as Mascot for Bolton (they can have a whip around to pay for it & slip him a few quid too).

Or maybe it is showing some sympathy for a guy who lost his job eh

Please never do that again, we should always mock people in that situation particularly in the world of football

I'll be live on BBC Radio Essex tomorrow morning talking about starting this petition.
Had no idea it would escalate to this extent

Do you actually know the facts? If you do, and you want to sympathise, then fair enough. However, for Bolton fans to start a petition, if they don't know the facts (and why would they,as Southend are not going to discuss it with them), then they should stay out of it.

Do you know the facts?

If not you should stay out of it. Works both ways fella.

Don't make yourself look stupid. I am not "in it", so how can I "stay out of it".

All I have done is point out that nobody on here knows the facts. This petition is asking for a bloke (that nobody in Bolton knows) to get his job back. Worse than that, they don't know the full reason behind why he got sacked either.

otally pointless.

You don't know the reasons either, all we can do is base our views on the facts that have been presented. On the face of it, it seems unfair.

I understand this guys and have had a lot of stick for whatever reasons about starting the petition.

I have had messages from Ken's friends and family explaining to me that he genuinely lost his job because the pitch could not be sorted out

Of course Southend won't come on to discuss it.

Why should they? It is nobodys business but theirs/his. However, the also have legal reasons why they won't say anything. If the groundsman has any sense he will keep quiet too - that's certainly what his lawyer will tell him.

Only, his wfe was on local southend radio last week talking about this, and that in his 27 year association with the club, he has never had any disciplinary or warnings, and that his only warning was the day after the call off, that he was sacked, so he asked if he could pick up his gear from the shed

Come on Muzzle, what would you expect her to say? Besides which, does he tell his missus what he has been up to at work anyway?

What is said in public is not always true!!

I know buddy, my reaction was down to the way Southend chose to publicly announce his sacking, and also the wording of it. I just felt sorry for the guy, as the temperature went down to a lower temp than expected, plus that part of the pitch is affected by the flats, so it doesn't get much heat.
