God knows what formation we'll set up with, if we are still going with the Bruce set up I think it would be a 3-5-2, Bullen seems to prefer a 4-3-3 though.

Westwood

Palmer
Lees
Borner
Obubajo

Bannan
Hutchinson
Lee

Reach
Fletcher
Harris

Subs- Dawson, Iorfa, Thorniley, Pelupessy, Joao, Rhodes, Nuhiu

We definitely need another couple of midfielders if we plan on a 4-3-3, even a 4-4-2 we need a tough tackler in there when Hutchinson isn't fit for half the season. Another centre back and another left back might also be handy.

Need a striker still desperately, trust the club to get one but if not we'll fall short of where we want to be.

Ours is very dependent on who goes and who stays.

If we keep Sawyers, Benrahma and Maupay, I think we line up like this:

Raya

Dalsgaard Jansson Pinnock Henry

Norgaard
Sawyers Jensen

Benrahma Maupay Watkins
If they all go, I expect us to try and sign replacements, but with the squad we have left we’d likely go:

Raya

Jansson Jeanvier Pinnock

Dalsgaard Norgaard Jensen Henry

Marcondes Watkins Canos
The first team obviously looks a lot more likely to be able to go up!

Need a new keeper, a Robbo replacement and another striker but we've still got a good set of 14/15 players to scrap a side together with, plus some other players with the potential to kick on this year (Ledson, Harrop, Earl, Ginnelly, maybe Moult if he can stay fit).

Add another three good players and I actually think we're in a nice position, i'm not confident of that happening though.

For the opening day against Millwall i'd probably go....

New GK
Fisher, Bauer, Davies, Hughes
Pearson, Gallagher
Bodin, Browne, Barkhuizen
Maguire

Ripley, Clarke, Johnson, New LW, Potts, Nugent, Stockley

I'd probably opt for Potts over Bodin away from home usually but he hasn't had much of a pre-season due to a knee problem and Bodin has been our best performer this summer.

If you keep that first choice 11 I'll be surprised if you aren't in the top 6. Looks very strong.

I'd say we'll maintain the diamond formation initially, but I think our squad suits 4-3-3 / 4-5-1 if we need to. We haven't got a right back yet apart from Crainie who can fill in there and youngster Neufville who has never played a professional match in that position who has been impressing in pre-season.

GK Simon Sluga

RB New Right Back
LB Brendan Galloway
CB Sonny Bradley
CB Matty Pearson

DM Martin Crainie
CM Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu
CM Andrew Shinnie

RF Kazenga LuaLua
LF Callum McManaman
CF James Collins

I'd say that's not a bad starting XI.
Dan Potts, Luke Berry, Danny Hylton, Elliot Lee, Harry Cornick, Ryan Tunnicliffe, Glen Rea, George Moncur, James Shea, Alan Sheehan all in reserve too to fill in.

How long before George Moncur gets fed up and asks his daddy to facilitate a move?

No idea how we're going to line up as so many new faces have come in. Huge changes in defence and midfield. Reckon McGeehan, Mowatt, Woodrow and maybe Bahre will be the only players from last season whose position in the starting line-up is safe.

From what I've seen of him in pre-season, he looks a bit fitter and certainly up for the cause. This is Championship football and he can live in Essex with all his other ex-WHU teammates.

Id be surprised if Moncur doesnt start the first game. From what ive seen he has had a better pre season than Lee and I would go as far to say its his number 10 shirt to lose at this point.

We need to sign a right back. Leaving it a bit late in the day to sign such a key player in how we play, id rather Cranie not play there. With him and Potts we would have 2 more defensive minded fullbacks which means we could not really play the diamond very effectively.

As Kenny says however perhaps a change of system is in order. Unless we played it against Maritimo then i dont think we have played it at all in pre season however which would seem a bit of a risk. Jones (Nathan) did that at the start of last season with 352 and we looked a bloody shambles!

We need a right back quite quickly. Cranie hasn't played there at all in pre-season. It's just dawned on me that we're going into the last game of pre-season without a recognised first choice player in that position.

Huh? Iorfa on bench, he's banned, but no 1FF who isn't banned, yet.

Um, not really sure and that's likely for the best. I'm sure Harris will stick to a 4-4-2 since he always does.

Think Thompson will start for Williams, fergie in at left back I reckon. Dunno why we are chasing another right back when we don’t have a left back at all!

Think it's been touched on above or on another thread, but a lot of squads don't seem to be "ready" for the new season - strange. Transfer window closing in 10 days...

As I say, we need a RB, but at least it isn't just us in that position.

In this division Ken, a lot of business tends to be done once the Prem boys are back from their tours and finalise their squads.
Expect a mental week for Championship clubs.

We've done the bulk of our business already. Very happy with the way this summer has progressed so far.

Cranie played right back for the first hour vs Basingstoke and for most of the game vs Maritimo. I wonder if we're looking at Butterfield because we're struggling to find a right back option so need a midfielder to free Cranie up to play there.

Hope not as agree with TFCH that the diamond will be stodgy as fuck with two fairly defensive full backs (honestly it looked unbalanced as hell even with 1 i.e. Stacey and Potts).

We must have identified a list of targets for the position as we knew at least 1 and very likely both of JJ and Stacey would go surely. Weirdly I can't remember us actually being linked to any names in the press apart from that Belgian one.

I would have Moncur ahead of Lee too but I don't think GJ will judging by the last few friendlies, whenever he has started with what looks like "full strength" Lee has been given the nod.

I think Moncur will win that shirt sooner or later though, Lee is an extremely patchy form player and whilst Moncur didn't always influence games when he played, he has a moment of magic in him and can't knock his goal record (basically 1 in 2 for us but that doesn't take in to account the fact he was sub for most of them, minutes to goals ratio is actually better than 1 every 90 minutes).

We need a new RB, CM and Striker or two. As it stands not too bad:

Muric

Cash
Milosevic
Figueredo
Robinson

Watson
Semedo
Silva

Adomah
Grabban
Lolley

Carvalho is injured atm so will spot in somewhere. Really need to replace Watson.

Front 6 is tough to pick, still got Reece Brown who's had a great pre season, Van La Parra, Quaner, Kachunga, Mbenza, Koroma and Mounie... plus some promising youngsters. Some great depth there but still a chance we could lose some of these names if big bids come in.

If Siewart is as good at being a Championship manager as he is a nice guy then we've got a chance to challenge again.

Doubt they'll be starters but they were both a key part of our promotion season and great lads that are popular amongst the team and fans, very good squad players to have.

I reckon we could see a change of formation with Jones abandoning the diamond. Worked brilliantly for us the last two years however as he acknowledged in his post match interview yesterday it relies on attacking full backs which we have lost in JJ and Stacey. Some of the signings we have made and those we are linked with suggest we may be getting our width further up the pitch so a 4-3-3 may be the way forward.
He has said we are looking to get a couple in before the first game. We desperately need a RB having lost two and we have Jacob Butterfield trialling so its not unreasonable to suggest the other could him. We have also been linked with a loan for Isaac Vassell today which would also fit in well with a 4-3-3. As it stands we would look something like..

GK - Sluga
RB - Cranie
CB - Pearson
CB - Bradley
LB - Galloway
CM - Tunnicliffe
CM - Ruddock-Mpanzu
CM - Shinnie
RWF - McManaman
CF - Collins
LWF - Lua Lua

Subs- Shea, Potts, Berry, Moncur, Lee, Cornick, Hylton

Would put the new RB in there ahead of Cranie and Vassell on one of the wings. Butterfield would be another option in the midfield although have had very mixed (shocking) reviews of him. If Vassell signs then likelihood is Hylton will be off, we'll be looking to flog Jake Jervis and probably Lloyd Jones. Pearson and Bradley were fantastic for us last year at CB however there's no pace there and could get exposed. Could do with a quicker ball playing centre half however we could get that from Glenn Rea when he is back from injury. We definitely need two in, 3 ideally, 4 would be perfect.

Imagine we now line-up as this when everyone is embedded:

GK - Rafael Cabral

RB - Andy Yiadom
CB - Matt Miazga
CB - Liam Moore
LB - Tyler Blackett

CM - Andy Rinomhota
CM - Pele

RW - Lucas Boye
CAM - John Swift
LW - Yakou Meite

ST - George Puscas

Subs: Sam Walker (GK), Michael Morrison (CB), Omar Richards (LB), Charlie Adam (CM), Modou Barrow (RW/LW), Michael Olise (RW/LW), Lucas Joao (ST)

Outside of that we have a number of academy players who have already made appearances, including Danny Loader and Andrija Novakovich . We have potentially Jordan Obita coming back after two years out, difficult to know how he'll be, but if he's back to his old self, then he should take Blackett's place.

Also have Chris Gunter, Garath McCleary, Adrian Popa and Sam Baldock who have been told to find new clubs.

Looks a lot stronger than 1.5 weeks ago..

This is how we should line up but i doubt we will as Mowbray has his favourites and likes playing players out of position.
