So, it’s been a crazy old summer, hasn’t it?

Most clubs will have completed their transfer business by now, but they’ll be a small number of clubs, like mine, who are yet to strengthen in key areas.

We still need a replacement for Vaughan, not to mention a RB - after binning off Kelvin Mellor, Adam Henley and Joe Riley in the summer.

McCall isn’t a fan of the flat 442, so I can see us line up with wing-backs or 433. Admittedly, we don’t yet have the personnel for the wing-back formation.

GK: Richard O’Donnell

RB: ??? (Levi Sutton)
CB: Anthony O’Connor
CB: Paudie O’Connor
LB: Connor Wood

CM:Elliot Watt
CM: Callum Cooke
CM: Harry Pritchard

ST: Zeli Ismail
ST: Kurtis Guthrie
ST: Lee Novak

Not particularly bothered about the game against Bolton, I just hope we have bodies in the building for when the season actually begins.

Over to yous....

I think we have a good blend going at the moment, 2 deep at almost every position with 3 or 4 still likely to come in with a couple of the younger lads getting loans elsewhere. Bit thin upfront and the defence is a worry early on but I think we'll have no problems scoring goals if we keep the majority fit.

GK - Crellin

RCB - Santos
CB - Delaney
LCB - Taft

RWB - Jones
CM - Comley
CM - Sarcevic
LWB - Gordon

CAM - Crawford

ST - Delfouneso
ST - Doyle

My god, has Taft signed for Bolton? Great player when hes bothered, seems to deliberately play badly to get dropped so he can have a holiday. Big mistake signing him.

Allowing for injuries, I think we'll start

GK - Farman
LB - Anderton
CB - McDonald
CB - Hayden
RB - Tanner
MF - Furman
MF - Guy
MF - Riley
FW - Patrick
FW - Kayode
FW - Reilly

But I haven't been paying all that much attention to how we've set up in our friendlies, I think Riley played 90 minutes last time out.

Dark horses this season, IMO.

Riley in midfield, though?

We look like we're going for 3-5-2 again this season, and there is probably another striker to come in. This is what I expect our strongest XI is.

Joel Dixon

James Jones
Matt Platt
Patrick Brough

Brad Barry
Tom Beadling
Mike Jones
Lewis Hardcastle
Josh Kay

Dior Angus
Scott Quigley

Quigley is banned for three matches though, so he won't start against Stevenage. Most of those are unknown at this level or have failed at L2 clubs - I think Platt, Hardcastle and Angus might surprise a few people though.

Not much change for us in terms of starting XI if all fit, but depth is now far better.

GK Scott Brown
RB James Gibbons
CB Leon Legge
CB Nathan Smith
LB Christian Montano

CM Scott Burgess
CM Tom Conlon
CM Luke Joyce

RW Dave Worrall
LW David Amoo

CF Theo Robinson

Pretty much Robinson added to the squad that was flying in 2020.

The depth this season is so that you could argue a case for Whitehead, Mills, Oyeleke, Pope, Brisley or Cullen to start and we are after another winger to back up now Browne has left.

Half decent starting XI but not much depth in squad. Janneh on loan from Bristol City supposed to be a tidy striker - we will soon see.

You'll all be glad to know that we have another rugby team using our field - Cardiff Blues, due to Arms Park still being used as a Covid field hospital. Plus Wales Ladies football will play a few games on Dave too. Pitch was due to be relaid in June but Covid put a spanner in the works.

Based on our pre-season it looks like we'll be playing 3-5-2. Would expect something like this on Saturday:

GK - Luke McGee

RCB - Udoka Godwin-Malife
CB - Jordan Moore-Taylor
LCB - Chris Stokes

RWB - Kane Wilson
CM - Dan Sweeney
CM - Carl Winchester
CM - Ebou Adams
LWB - Nicky Cadden

ST - Aaron Collins
ST - Jamille Matt

The likes of Liam Kitching (CB currently injured), Dom Bernard (RCB/RB), Elliott Whitehouse (CM banned for 6 games) and Scott Wagstaff (CM/W) could just as easily start when available, Hard to tell our strongest xi at the minute.

Maybe not in a midfield three but I'm also not sure who else might be in there, and we have a couple of injuries to kick the season off. Everything suggests though he's being viewed as a right winger rather than a right back and some stuff suggests, at least with the players we have available at the moment, that he's being viewed as likely to start. Devine perhaps? there's a lot of ex Bradford players knocking about.

We'll be playing our alleged first game of the season in the alleged Football League alleged trophy tonight, normally would pay very little attention to it, but be interesting to see how we line up.

Expect us to go 442 this season.

GK Johnny Maxted

RB Jake Caprice
CB Rory McArdle
CB Tom Parkes
LB Lewis Page

RW Randell Williams
CM Archie Collins
CM Nicky Law
LW Jack Sparkes

CF Matt Jay
CF Ryan Bowman

Backup: Lewis Ward, Pierce Sweeney, Jordan Dyer, Nigel Atangana, Jake Taylor, Joel Randall, Josh Key, Harry Kite, Nicky Ajose, Alex Fisher, Ben Seymour.

Overall a good squad and plenty of options to play a few different formations. I’d like us to maybe be able to bring in another striker but that will only happen if anyone leaves. I think we should be aiming for the top places again.

Lewis Ward on the bench, what a piss take. Would be a nailed on starter for pretty much everyone else in league 2. Shouldn't be allowed to have 2 such good keepers. Share them out a bit.

That's our strongest side but wont be what plays against scunthorpe. Gibbons is out so mills will be rb then Robinson isn't match fit so rodney may play down the middle. Montano has been injured but is back in training but I think Fitzpatrick will play.

Assuming no injuries (and as Flinders is out until January he won't be included) then I see our starting line-up as:

GK - Joshua Griffiths

CB - Charlie Raglan
CB - Ben Tozer
CB - Will Boyle

RWB - Matty Blair (not signed yet, but it's going to happen)
LWB - Chris Hussey

CM - Chris Clements
CM - Finn Azaz
CM - Liam Sercombe

4-4-2, 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 depending on the situation/opposition. Still need to bring in another CB and CM. With a few injuries we could struggle a bit. Keep Wes Hoolahan fit and we should be fine!

GK: Dimitar Mitov
RB: Kyle Knoyle
CB: Harry Darling
CB: Greg Taylor

DF: Robbie Cundy
DF: Leon Davies

FW: Joe Ironside

BACKUPS (Most likely to be loaned out):
GK: Kai McKenzie-Lyle, DF: Tom Dickens, MF: Joe Dearman, MF: Ben Worman, MF: Lewis Simper, MF: Jake Battersby, FW: Joe Neal

Unsure that Scott Davies will be fit and given Murphy has done reasonably well pre-season, don't think he'll be a shoo in, even if fully fit.

Have some reservations with using Vaughan as a lone striker. For home games, maybe as a spearhead, with 2 wide players as part of a front 3, but away I'd give him a partner up front.

Ha, yeah I find it impossible to choose between them most of the time. Ward is very good, but Maxted has impressed me too. Both would be no.1s if it wasn’t for the other!

We’ve signed literally one player (who was here on loan last season). So it’s a really different-looking:

GK: Lawrence Vigouroux

RB: Sam Ling
CB: Jamie Turley
CB: Dan Happe
LB: James Brophy

DMC: Ouss Cissé
MC: Craig Clay
MC: Jobi McAnuff

FW: Conor Wilkinson
FW: Lee Angol
FW: Jordan Maguire-Drew

Reserves: Sam Sargeant, Myles Judd, Joe Widdowson, Josh Coulson, Josh Wright, James Dayton, Louis Dennis, Danny Johnson, Ruel Sotiriou.

Kids: Shadrach Ogie, Jayden Sweeney, Hector Kyprianou, Brendon Shabani.

Defence is shite. Midfield is workmanlike. Forward line flatters to deceive. The good news for us is that the squad players are almost all roughly as good as the first team, so there won’t be much of a drop-off when the inevitable rotation/injuries happens. The bad news is that there isn’t a very high standard to drop off from. Liking the look of 15th.

Theo might start but not finish, others will have to change, think Monty has trained but would be risky for the cup games although may get minutes to get fit later on.

A couple of injuries? I wish!

Norman
Armer
Dixon
Kayode
Dickenson
Patrick

is our current injury list. And the rate it’s going there’ll probably be more added to that by Saturday, then more by the following Saturday.

I think McCall seems pretty dead set on a back three. Like you say, we're desperate for a ST and RWB and let's be honest they need to be here before the Colchester game otherwise they'll be playing catchup. So currently, I think this is what starts on saturday:

Richard O'Donnell

Anthony O'Connor
Paudie O'Connor
Reece Staunton

Dylan Mottley-Henry (because there's no one else)
Callum Cooke
Elliot Watt
Harry Pritchard
Connor Wood

Kurtis Guthrie
Lee Novak

Sneaky feeling Staunton will start because Richards Everton is a liability and Stuart likes a left footer on the left side of defence.

But my god that forward line is poor. Guthrie is doing fairly well currently to be fair but I don't rate Novak personally and we're desperate for some pace and mobility up there.

When everyone is available I think we’ll lineup something like...

Norman
Tanner Hayden McDonald Anderton
Guy Furman
Patrick Alessandra Dickenson
Kayode

unfortunately at the moment 4 of this 11 are out injured along with 2 others.

We have quite a few injuries right now, don't think any of them will be back for Saturday. This puts our line up at this

GK - Rory Watson (Terrible, one of the worst keepers in the league)

RB - Jai Rowe (Normally a back up, only played 1 league game)
CB - Tyler Cordner (Back up)
CB - Jacob Bedeau (Looked promising towards the end of last season)
LB - Frank Vincent (CM playing at LB)

RM - Ryan Colclough (Great player when he can be arsed which is hardly ever)
CM - Alex Gilliead (Normally a winger but may play CM)
CM - Lewis Spence (No clue if he's any good yet)
LM - Abo Eisa (One of our very few good players)

ST - Ryan Loft (Four FL goals)
ST - Kelsey Mooney (One FL goal)

Things aren't looking too great right now, looking at the other squads I think we may be in a bit of trouble.
