Guess this is a request to TractorBoys and if it's something that can't be amended/won't be considered then fine, but is it possible to give members of the site (guests would automatically have the filter on) a choice to opt out of the swear filter? I understand why the filter has been implemented but SHAG off for example does look rather ridiculous and as someone who's not offended by the language, I'd rather see the actual word.

From what I gather, 'SHAG' off was a bit of an inside joke and will be changed/removed by TB at some point in the short future.

A swear filter for the C word is more likely to be sticking around though I think, although that's not certain - more a vibe as I haven't caught up with TB for a couple of weeks on website related stuff.

It's more a question for TB in terms of there being an option to opt in/out for the Swear filter, but I'd imagine that would require lots of coding and in turn, lots of time.

I think the opt in or out feature should be taken into serious consideration.

Considering that a main function of the forum is communication through written language, it has a pretty significant effect on the 'forum experience'. A shitty one at that, for many.

Cheers for the update Rad, much appreciated.

The c word filter c*** is silly as well, just put ****.

I agree though that the c word should be filtered as it's a bit far.

But yeah, agreed. If you want to filter c**t then that's alright but leave the rest unfiltered imo. I understand the viewpoints of you guys and I know you have to try and make the forum appealing to new members and stuff, but one of the main attractions of this forum post TFF was its stripped down, more relaxed nature so I hope this doesn't get eroded too much.

Not a criticism lads, just sayin'.

Agree

We don't want this place to be like 1FF either where it is not relaxed at all and people get warnings and banned just for having banter.

How long can it take to change a filter? It didn't seem to take all that long to implement out of the blue.

It's not changing a filter as such that's the issue, that takes all but a few clicks of a button.

The opt in/opt out question with Aber asked at the end is what will take more time to code and work on, it might not even be possible.

No worries mate.

Just as a reference above, the 'SHAG' is just an entire inside joke from the box one night and it won't be and would never have been a permanent fix, just hadn't been taken off again. I'm happy to have the C word down as ****, I'm not overally bothered by it at all, use it quite often round my mates, but some people don't like it/don't see the need for it and wanted it filtered so it's a case of trying to appeal to as wide an audience as possible.

Just FWIW, 1FF won't end up anything like TFF - I'd say it's a pretty chilled, free for all, laid back environment, just what myself/TB and Mark want it to be.

Yes, please get rid of it, if the actual swear words put off new members, then the stupid filtered versions of them will definitely do so. It's undermining some of the debates on here, people are going to say f**k no matter what. It's not a particularly unedifying word either, in the right context it gives a sentence just the right amount of punchiness. I can understand editing c*** (though it is one of my favourite words), because it can be used as a direct insult. F**k has no such issue.

I do feel for people who are complaining over a swear filter, a sign of times huh? It's not too difficult to go without swearing now is it?

I really dislike the 'C' word and don't use it myself and would rather others didn't either however, I'm a big boy and can cope with seeing it. I just despair at the society we have become when using it is now the norm.

I think members should have the option to see swears if they aren't bothered or filter them if they are.

Yeah but I never actually meant any of it, I was only letting off some steam. Plus I just tried to liven the place up a bit and since I and many other out spoken members got kicked out, the forum has become a ghost town!
