I've gone down a rabbit hole tonight on 11v11 looking at our all time records against clubs. Unfortunately there's no way to see an overall list of who you've played the most without looking at each individual team.

My immediate thought was Rochdale and I think it's right, we've played them 104 times in total. Also found it interesting our record against Port Vale is 16 wins, 16 draws and 16 losses, think we should agree to share a match each this season or draw both.

Pretty sure it’s Hartlepool for us. 146 games in all comps. Though not played them in the league since Jan ‘14. Which has been weird.

I would hazard a guess the answer for us is one of Bradford or Swindon as we’ve seemingly been in the same division for as long as I can remember.

Our wins v Scunny must have come at an early time as you’re one of those clubs who always find a way to beat us.

Think ours is actually Barnsley!

That Scunny record means we must of given them regular beatings pre 2000! Feels like we've lost all 16 since!

110 Meetings with Barnsley, more than Swindon and Bradford.

I’m a bit surprised by that as since I’ve been going though our paths have crossed a reasonable number of times it’s not been a huge amount. Shame as when we have come across them we’ve done alright either at VP or Oakwell. Remember beating them 3-1 at VP in Andreas Lipas greatest game.

I can only remember one league win over Scunny which was under Bruno when we were top of L1 and all set for Big Reg, Alex Jones and Seb Amoros to dominate for years to come. Didn’t quite go to plan after that.

Yeah recall that game, top of the table clash in League One and Lipa looked every bit the Austrian Beckham we were promised... couple of weeks later he was in trouble for racial comments to Jason Bent on our anti racism day and that was the end of that!

Its the only win other than the Carabao last season I recall, Alex Jones tore them apart that day... if we had kept him we'd have stayed up. Relying on Big Reg (although I actually thought he wasnt as bad as made out) was never going to work.

Think I've heard before that ours is Hartlepool. We've played them 104 times, our first two meetings we won, 6-2 and 8-0.

I'll have a look and see if there's anyone we've played more; it is annoying that that site has all this data yet doesn't provide a list of most common opponents, or even a grand total per opponent (it provides WDL but no P). I feel like for a lot of teams it's going to be based on the Div 3 N/S era before there was any relegation. There's a lot of teams like ourselves who spent thirty to forty years just consistently in Div 3 N/S playing the same teams over and over.

Checked a few of the usual D3N suspects; Darlo, Oldham, Rochdale, Bury, York, Scunny, Grimsby Tranmere; them sorts and none of them come close to Hartlepool's 104 so I'm gonna stick with Hartlepool.

I wonder what the most common fixture in English football as a whole is. Instinct says Arsenal v Everton since those are the two teams with the most seasons in the top flight and it may well be over a hundred years now since Arsenal and Everton didn't play each other in a season.

Luckily we have a historian that has a fantastic website of stats so I can easily find this information out.

Reading who we have played 150 times.
(won 58, drawn 38, lost 54)

We've played Bristol Rovers 148 times so after our league games this season will be level. (Won 64, drawn 20, lost 64).

QPR, Watford and Northampton are next.

Ahh newbies. I just looked at that data and it appears we have played Colchester the most (18) followed by Carlisle and Crewe.

IRL I'd say the (now) football league side we have played most would be Burton or Cheltenham but that would be in those Kingfisher days of non league.

Aston Villa vs Everton is the game with the most games

We have played more league games (138) against Rochdale than any other opponent. Darlington have been stranded on 134 games since 2007, though we have played them many times more than any other team if you count all the cups, local comps, and the days of the North Eastern League before we both joined the FL.

For all major comps (EFL, FAC, LC, FLT, NL, FAT, Playoffs) it's Darlo on 150 then Rochdale on 147.

Not sure on our statistics, I guess we faced a number of teams here a lot back in the 50s to 70s, not that I was around. The current team in League 2 we've probably played the most in the last 10 or 15 years is probably FGR.

In terms of Football League meetings, we'll be in your top three

Tranmere for us (137) and Hartlepool (136) are just behind them.

Worth noting that for every season bar one between 1921 and 1989 we were in the same division as Pools. Only been in the same division 4 times though since 1989...

Most likely Port Vale, I was relieved to see them go down when we were in league 1 but we obviously couldn’t live without them and went down a couple of seasons later…

In recent years Gillingham and Swindon, but with the north/south divides I doubt we played them so much.

I tried to look on that website but it’s appalling when using on a phone so I’ll safely guess Port Vale.

‘Teams you haven’t played too often’ would’ve been more interesting.

Fulham, in that case.

Aston Villa for us then - only played them once - and never in the League. the result of the cup game has somehow slipped my mind though...

I saw an article about which team has played the most others in the league and that said after this season Brentford will have played league games against everyone bar Sutton.

Obviously , we have been including all games in this thread but that's still an achievement from them.

I think its Newport. 127 games, slightly more than Torquay.

I recall a stat last season that said we have lost to Northampton more than any other team. It feels like I've seen all of them.

Crewe for us I think. We played our first ever Football League game against them as well.

Arsenal have had a continuous presence in the top flight for over a century, but Everton were actually a second division side briefly in the fifties.

Another good one would be, 'which team do you have a 100% record against in competitive matches ?'.

Arsenal in our case.

Harrogate for us. Rochdale will be top for us with Mansfield Hartlepool and probably Darlington next. For some strange reason we have only played one season against Stockport since 1990. O know they got relegated to non league but I bet all the teams who have stayed in the football league in this division played them more than that
