Following on from Fish's emotive post, I've just now recieved official confirmation from the exec that there is no declared Champion of the Real Brotherhood this season. Please see below:

Dear Esteemed Members,

Owing to yesterday's unfortunate events, this year's Brotherhood League has been forfeited. This decision has been swiftly taken in response to yesterday's disastrous events played out in front of the nation on BT Sport 1. As a collective, we are horrified and appalled that even though once again Evil has prevailed, the Brothers were not in a position to stop it, despite all 6 Brothers being in a position to challenge. This has come at great disappointment and anguish.

We must take heed from this and move on. Today, our flags are flying at half mast. Including our flag at Buckingham Palace. There will be minutes of silence held daily until the start of the new season.

At this juncture, it is also disappointing to see as many as 8 Brother clubs potentially caught in despair next season. We sincerely hope one of you go up in the play offs as 7 is at least better than fucking 8.

You did indeed and this commitment to the Brotherhood has been duly noted HOWEVER.......
Whilst looking back at your previous Brotherhood history I notice that last season you allowed the tinpot shithouse filth of Harrogate Town FC into the Football League and for this despicable act Notts County FC have been placed on a 12 month Brotherhood probationary period.

This probationary period however will be reduced to only 6 months if Notts County come up against Eastleigh Bromley or FC Halifax and knock any of them out of the play offs.

Didn’t invent it tbf, was just a term that was bounced about 10 or so years ago. Still referenced at the top the Conference Forum funnily enough which can be googled given I’ve deleted the link.

Chipmunx has got it btw, although you can also swap twat for team. PELT would describe Wrexham, a team that’s been down so long it’s now permanent.

Glossary of non-league colloquialisms​

Belt - A bitter ex-league team. As in, a team that have been relegated from the EFL and feel they're too good for the level they're at. Often fans claim it's off-the-field mismanagement that has seen them relegated. Often found calling the division wretched, as if they're somehow above it. Examples:Chesterfield, Hartlepool, Notts County. Luton were a massive belt when they were down and arguably were the origin of the phrase.

Pelt - A permanent ex-league team. A team that were relegated - and possibly once a belt - but have stayed in non-league for so long it feels like they're never going to get out. A lot of the older fans of these clubs can still be belts, but younger fans don't know anything better. Examples: Wrexham, Stockport County (who once had a ridiculous number of former players playing international football one weekend when they were in action in the National League North)

AGM Cup - Remember I said there'd still be hope for some clubs in the relegation zone? The AGM Cup is their helping hand. Held at the National League's end-of-season AGM, it typically sees clubs being handed a reprieve from relegation because another club has had financial troubles. Aldershot, for example, finished in the final relegation spot last season but were handed a reprieve after Gateshead were demoted.

2CW - A two-club wanker. The sort of person who has an actual answer to 'Yeah, but who do you reallysupport?' Fairly inoffensive and a friend to the non-league game, but also looked upon with a bit of suspicion by those who only support a non-league club.

Proper - A proper club is a big club at this level. A team who really shouldn't be in non-league football due to a storied history, but still find themselves slumming it with the rest of us. Everyone looks forward to a day out at a proper team's ground, and treats it as a cup final. NB - There's an argument that proper status is revoked if a team spends more than a certain amount of consecutive seasons in non-league football, or is relegated from the League on two separate occasions. Examples: Chesterfield, Notts County

Tinpot - If you're not proper, you're tinpot. Some clubs wear it as a badge of honour, others find it rather insulting. The sort of clubs that have traditional grounds and dream of playing in the EFL (although there are some tinpot clubs in the EFL). Generally, if a team is about to be relegated from the EFL to the National League, their fans will look down the National League table and wrinkle their nose at tinpot clubs. 'Ugh, we have to play AFC Fluffybunnys next season, this is going to be hell' Examples:Ebbsfleet, Sutton United, Maidenhead United, FC Halifax. Pretty much every team that haven't played in the EFL and even some that have. Some tinpot fans might like to pretend their proper on the strength of good attendances but deep down they know they're not really.

Shit or bust - When a team spends money like it's going out of fashion and it's going to end one or two ways; they're crowned champions or go out of business.

Is it Boreham Wood? - An old phrase that dates back to when Boreham Wood seemed to sign every single player under the sun every day for two months.

I don't know who wrote that but they're wrong on the attendances thing. I was very interested in matchday programmes as a kid and so my dad got me this bargain lot of 1980's non league match day programmes. I was very surprised at the time to learn that a number of NL clubs were getting home crowds of around 2000-3000 while a good number of the 4th div. sides could barely attract 900-1000 fans for a FL match.

In my eyes, home attendances is a good indicator of the size of the club. Assuming of course that said club is not giving away free tickets to all.
