As no classical thread has appeared so far, I'm guessing there is not a huge amount of interest in classical music here.

Great pity really.

I was wondering is anyone else is using the Composed app?

Poor you. I'll muscle in because classical is among the first music that ever got me going and still does. In honesty it's hard to allocate time for it in a world where music's often a background thing and needs to be paused frequently due to distractions. So that makes it hard to cram a symphony in at times. Then say a Wagner opera is like a satirical exaggeration of that problem. Still, the sorts of peak feelings you can get out of classical music are hardly met by owt else. I'm not to keen on just sticking it on in the background to feel a bit fancy though.

I'm a big fan of Gustav Mahler because I'm usually the most weak for rich romantic music played by around a hundred musicians with melody lines that take a bit of effort to latch onto, and I like the pastoral sounds of much of his music and how much there is to digest. As well as a bit of sentimentality I guess. I've seen his 1st, 5th (twice) and 8th live, as well as a rehearsal for his 2nd. The last concert I went to was his 5th and I let out a loud involuntary grunt of disappointment upon its conclusion. It's like a huge delicious meal and I still haven't been able to fully digest that symphony.

Karl Jenkins astonishingly beautiful Benedictus from his The Armed Man : A Mass For Peace

The video here is quite unrelated to the work, but it really works well alongside it.

Watched a 70th birthday "Best Of" do of his last year in Manchester, conducted by the man himself. Not too shabby!

Is he all that already, sheesh! He does make some very memorable music indeed.

A very famous old melody from Thomas Tallis here, which Vaughan-Williams turned into that extraordinary fantasia based on this piece.

Four movements from Messiaen's Quartet For The End Of Time.

Difficult and unnerving, yet exquisitely beautiful, especially when you consider that it was composed and premiered in a prisoner-of-war camp in WWII. One of the most affecting works of music of all time in my opinion, and a masterpiece.

My tastes run mainly to the 20th century, and this is a big favourite:

The music of insanity? Who'd have thought the cello was capable of creating such sounds...

Not heard this in years, and came across it while flicking through the radio in the car earlier today. Not bad for a 17 year old this! Fuck when I was 17 all I did all day was wank! :D

Suggested it earlier in the thread. Gotta love the Russians. Actually was that me or most of Trump's cabinet?
