Quite a few teams entering next season I suspect.

I’m hoping we may be in here but at the moment it is one free transfer.
Window opens Tuesday so I expect us to be throwing obscene amounts of Yankee dollars around.
If not I will want to know why not.

I think it is too early to say who may be going for it next season, especially as there doesn't seem to have been much early movement with signing free-agents ahead of the transfer window opening next week, for ourselves I'm just hoping for a season of consolidation and trying to avoid the dreaded double drop. We weren't ready for League One last season, either on or off the pitch, I don't see that situation being rectified after one season back in League Two.

Can't even deny this. Course we are- and when we find we aren't steamrolling the division after a few weeks the fallout will be intense.

The appointment of McCann says we are, the players we’ve signed so far not so much.

Gillingham fans - “Let’s start a going for it thread”.

Also Gillingham fans - “How dare you say we’re going for it, we didn’t pay that much, the player just wanted to move down south actually”.
That’s exactly how the GOING FOR IT thread works.

GOING FOR IT in my opinion so far:

I think we’d give it a go but the budgets that the likes of wrexham, gillingham and county will have will probably blow us out the water.

It’s going to be a tough league and they’ll be plenty of sides who’ll be disappointed.

There’s also sides who’ve every capability like swindon and tranmere who had poor seasons by their standards who i’m sure will be making a better fist of it.

Given L2’s forever competitive nature, money very rarely guarantees success down here. It’s seems to be different in National League, and sometimes if you’ve got a playing budget that pips £10m+ in L1, you can typically expect to secure play-offs minimum. Down here, it’s a lot different, I find.

With that being said, we’ll enter our 5th consecutive season down here with our largest ever budget in L2.

Over £3.5m last season - expected to be nearer £4m this season. Turnover this season confirmed at £8.3m, which we’re forecasting to surpass next financial year.

You lost some respectability for putting Salford one spot too low, but I agree the lack of ™️ at the end of Going For It ™️ is a rookie mistake by one of our resident Gillingham billionaires.

I'll be honest, I'm not seeing anything about Doncaster and Grimsby Going For It. That's not saying they're bad signings by any stretch. But it's not hitting the Going For It defintion. The fact they're active early is what's drawing attention because we're all bored.

Now if you were to say both teams will be in the mix, I'd agree they're candidates. But so are a lot of teams. Lets be honest if you can get a solid team out there who are well drilled, sound defensivley and carry a threat you can win promotion. That was Stevenage, Northampton and Carlisle. Orient had a bit more to them but they were built on clean sheets from what I saw.

That's a good point, Salford have smaller attendances and therefore more reckless than Mansfield. Have amended that.

Good points, have swapped Stockport and Donny around as well.

Leyton Orient definitely went for Going For It™️ last season but did it quietly and effectively considering they were by far the best side in the division.

Bit of a weird one with Mansfield now, we go for a small but well paid squad, under Flitcroft/Evans/Dempster we were definitely Kitchen Sink Going For It™️ but our spending has significantly lowered since those heights although still very competitive and as January proven we now actively try to sell players (Hawkins, Lapslie, Gordon) and replace for less money and better value overall (Calum Johnson, DKD, Kilgour). January was a bizarrely shrewd window for Mansfield.

They literally make about £50 on a match day and still spend more than most, you could argue it’s the most reckless in the division overall.

Isn't the Still going for it section for the teams that go for it every year but never get promoted? if so shouldn't Bradford be in there too?

I think L2 is looking to potentially be a cracking season next year if all these quality signings are made.

I'm so glad we got promoted when we did, because it's already looking much tougher to get out of this league.

We’ve signed two people so far, one was already here and the other released by Sutton!

Very good point. Perhaps we need to do it as a Venn diagram instead?

You're right up where you are based off the McGoldrick stuff alone. Getting that Langstaff sale done would definitely move you down some spots and probably out of Kitchen Sink territory.

Kitchen sink going for it should be reserved for teams who are newly going for it. Think Bradford should be humbled and moved into the bucket with us and Salford.

I think Wrexham should be in their own category of if they don’t do it they deserve to be relegated back to non-league.

that said there’s probably 10 teams who could hope for a top 3 finish. whoever does get there will have earned it!

the conference last season was wrexham county chesterfield and 21 pub sides.

Wouldn’t class Oldham and Southend as pub sides to be honest.

not traditionally but both had been demoted to that by dodgy owners.

You could possibly call some pub sides but the National League is far stronger than when Mansfield were in there. Almost no part time teams, much more league experience in most teams.

Not that I’m backing up either yours or Adam point, looking at the table when we won the title I see maybe three part-time clubs.

I do think you and County coming up are the strongest teams to come up in an while and I’m sure both will spend to strengthen now too.

Honourable mention to Woking who finished 2 points behind Chesterfield

I’m ordering some more bollocks from Amazon so I have replacements handy as I laugh them off as the ‘going for it’ gang fall by the wayside one by one and Accrington piss the league after spending tuppence.
