So it’s down to four then:-

  • Northampton v Mansfield
  • Swindon v Port Vale

If looking at them you would say the teams are as follows

Northampton

Strength - Probably the leagues best and most reliable defence

Weakness - Not the most dynamic going forward

Port Vale

Strength - All round unit

Weakness - Notorious chokers

Swindon

Strength - Probably the most attractive team to watch

Weakness - Little bit one dimensional.

Mansfield

Strength - High class midfield

Weakness - Notorious chokers

Choose your fighter I guess!

usually most people will agree which teams are most likely to go up from the play off's - but it could be any of this lot

We've taken points off all of them and they've all taken points off us. Anything can happen really.

I guarantee the games will be more exciting than the 2 dull L1 play off games. Fucking snorefest.

Port Vale can go up - they beat us twice - we beat all of the others though

Swindon are the best bet for me.
They probably thought they had missed their chance after losing to Orient. Now they are bang in form and the others may still be suffering hangovers of not clinching 3rd place.
Hope its Vale though as im sure Darrell is happy for us today.

Think it'll be Swindon too, but I want Vale to go up. Had a few seasons of rubbish and tough times like us so those are the ones I'll be cheering for.

I think the one thing in our favour is really at no point today was it ever likely we would get third ourselves. Obviously we blew the five point lead so maybe in that there is the question how we cope with the finishing line in sight. Kind of goes back to our main weakness mentioned.

It's all a lottery, but over the last 8 games we're the form team, and over the last 6 Swindon (though splitting hairs as 1 point different either way), with Mansfield with the least momentum going into it.

We will find a way of fucking it up, but i’ve seen northampton 3 times this season (obviously twice with mansfield) and they play no football at all, they just dive and look for set pieces. they’re one of the worst sides i’ve seen at mansfield this season and were thankful to their keeper to keep it the score to 1-0 when it should have been 3 or 4. the same keeper had a straight red at barrow. I don’t fear them at all

At the same stage i wouldn’t expect any side would expect to fear us either.

we’re one of 4 sides that can make it, and if we don’t i wish whoever makes it the best of luck.

From purely a geographical point of view, I hope it is Swindon that get promoted.

That would be 4 long journeys to the South West out of the way for us!

Can't help thinking the eventual play-off winners will come from the Vale vs Swindon match. I think Swindon are way too mean an outfit for the others, and in form. It would be a complete shit show for them to be left isolated in League two with so many West country teams, and Oxford! All together next season. Newport the other odd one's out. But Vale are a very good side, so no give me's. It wi!l be mighty interesting. Always mixed feelings with Swindon. Can't believe no TV coverage of the final.

My money would be on either Swindon or Vale, but it's a tough call. Given the chaos in which they started the season, things have gone exceptionally for the roundabout boys. I'm not convinced they are as good as the last Swindon side that got promoted from League Two, but they're a stylish, capable team, and will thrive on play-off pressure....the only problem is: so are Vale...

Mansfield give away way too many goals on a plate to win the play-offs, both goals embarrassing today defensively.

Mansfield’s games
Northampton home win away lose
swindon home win away lose
port vale home draw away lose

We’re the smallest of the sides in the playoffs and haven’t been in league 1 for 20 years, it’s clearly expected that one of the 3 will go up.

You must have spent a fair wedge with those players you signed this season though. Probably more than the others

I think Port Vale Football Club will win the Sky Bet League Two Promotion Playoffs.

Flip of a coin isn’t it… I didn’t want Swindon as they’ve been a bit of a bogey side (although less so in recent seasons), and the McKirdy factor again… but you could make a case for wanting to avoid anyone.

With Bristol Rovers out the way it’s anybodys I would say, the interesting part of the Vale/Swindon tie is both are excellent away sides!

It’s a first play off campaign in 29 seasons, we got to the final in the two we did play but many are too young to remember!

How the hell do you recover from today though if your Northampton. That’s going to take a monumental effort to bounce back.

Results earlier in season usually meaningless in play-offs.
Few years ago Bristol Rovers could not beat FGR in league games but won home & away in play-offs.
And then went on to win promotion at Wembley.
