James Ward the only Brit to come with any credit today I'm afraid. Played a great first set against Verdasco and was a break up in the third. Fine margins.

Watson looked way below par and, frankly, unwell. Huge shame after all the good work in the lead up to the GS.

Edmund isn't quite ready to be knocking off top 30/40 in the world players. He played okay but was never going to beat Johnson today.

I think Monfils could be a dark horse in the tournament, he was playing superbly in the second half of last season, and he's always worth a watch with his shot-making and athleticism.

I'm thinking Andy will have a tougher match later on tonight up against Matosevic who isn't a bad player when he's on his game and will have the crowd behind him knowing the Aussies. I'll say Murray in 4.
