Now Beijing have got the Winter version in 2022.

Expect it won't all be in the Chinese capital due to the lack of natural snow.

Beijing has been chosen to host the 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, beating the bid of Kazakhstan's Almaty.

Having hosted the 2008 Olympics, the Chinese capital will be the first city to host both a summer and winter Games.

Beijing and Almaty were considered outsiders when the 2022 bid race opened two years ago.

But after a host of European cities withdrew for political or financial reasons, the Chinese bid beat Almaty by 44 votes to 40 with one abstention.

European countries pulled out due to the cost of hosting such games.

Indeed, the cost of it is getting scandalous. I think Sochi was over £3 bill to cover, and nobody went to it! :D

Yeh I agree that a lot of the cost to the hosting country is made up for by the money made from tourism, but you need people to come to get that! It will be interesting to see numbers for these games, especially with the human rights issues already being brought up.

It's too expensive for democracies to justify the costs of hosting the Olympics or World Cup.

A real shame as I thought the London Olympics were superb.
