Possibly the best show to ever air on television. It only ever aired over night but it was a brilliant show and Adult Swim's most successful original series.

Anyways, that's enough for today. Stay tuned for the top 10 which hopefully I could start it tomorrow.

I loved Dungeons and Dragons and used to play as a couple of the characters when I could. I forgot all about it though, shame on me!

#15 La Linea - 10 points (1 list)

La Linea is an Italian cartoon run on RAI. It ran from 1971 to 1991. It had 3 seasons with 90 episodes.

Mine.

The adventures of an irascible wee bod travelling along an infinite white line. Along the way he encounters obstacles/is furnished with objects/etc drawn by the animator.

The series owes a lot to Duck Amuck (the greatest animation of all, obviously), but is more than just plagiarism. There's an impressive inventiveness to it (how many scenarios can be wangled out of the really simple premise? answer: the best part of a hundred) but the stark minimalism and the appearance of the animator's extradiegetic hand implies something else too, foregrounding the image as object and creation, a treatise on representation. It's part cinema scene from Sherlock Jr and part The Girl Chewing Gum, but there is also (it seems to me) something a little bit mean and mocking about it. The artist as cruel god, omnipotent in his (admittedly narrow) realm, bullying his hapless creation. Which then becomes, perhaps, a parable of life as miserable schlep along our own individual little white lines (tho infinite they are mercifully not).

Mr Linea speaks a sort of Pingu-ish gibberish and the barebones aesthetic means there's no real cultural specificity to the scenerios or humour, so this travelled everywhere back in the day and got a plot of play as an interstitial program. Subliminal avante-isms nestling amongst the car commercials.

#20 Rick and Morty - 10 points (1 list)

Rick and Morty is a show broadcast on Adult Swim. It currently finished its second season recently and has been renewed for a third. It currently has 21 episodes.

Seen a few episodes and its good, but I don't think its the best Adult Swim ever that everyone is making it out to be. Its not Aqua Teen Hunger Force
You're right, it's certainly not Aqua Teen Hunger Force. Which is a positive thing, in my opinion, as the vast majority of Aqua Teen Hunger Force that I've watched is purely wacky for the sake of wackiness. Silly accents papering over huge cracks. While Rick and Morty is by no means highly complex, it's certainly more plot driven than most of its aforementioned network counterparts. My main criticism of most Adult Swim productions is that they're overly absurd. Rick and Morty manages to balance its absurdity with more sophisticated narratives and a more considered ethos towards its brand of humour than the likes of Aqua Teen Hunger Force, The Brak Show, Squidbillies, etc.

Rick and Morty was my number one, anyway. It's the show that Futurama could have been had it grown a pair of balls, contracted an SDI from Total Recall and then mated with Back to the Future and if you haven't already you should watch it all now.

Recognised the name La Linea, but had no idea where from until I read this post. I remember reading an article or a blog or something on Alan Becker that referenced it, more specifically with regards to the above bolded section.

Looney Tunes was a brilliant show and forever will be a classic. Seen Sealab 2021 and its a hiliarous show. Couldn't find a better quality intro for Ren and Stimpy unfortunately. As for the show itself, I haven't seen it and its not the type of show I would like. Especially not nowadays seeing as its mostly aimed at kids given its rating.

#16 Tales From the Cryptkeeper - 10 points (1 list)

Tales From the Cryptkeeper is a show that ran for 3 seasons consisting of 39 episodes on ABC and CBS from 1993 to 1999.

Mine.

Always had a soft spot for Hey Arnold! although in hindsight I rushed my list and probably would have only made a top 20, maybe 15 had I thought it through a bit more.

Tales From The Cryptkeeper well and truly deserves its place at the head of my list though. Always been a horror fan, going back as far as I can remember. Call me weird but I've always felt most comfortable with the uncomfortable. Dark winter nights after school in the mid/late nineties, snuggled up on the sofa after tea, this along with Are You Afraid of the Dark? made for great after school TV.

EDIT: Missed the Ren & Stimpy post, also one of mine - see Hey Arnold! comments.

Before #1, I'd like to talk about each of the shows I just posted.

Rugrats

Loved this show as a kid but I haven't seen it in a very very long time so I don't remember much about it anymore.

TMNT

Never seen it

Family Guy

I'm one of the few people who hasn't seen as much of this as others have, but the bits I have seen, its either hilariously funny, or unfunny to the point where its cringeworthy.

King of the Hill

Like Rugrats, I haven't seen it in a very very long time but I remember loving it. Very good show.

Tom and Jerry

My favourite show when I was young and like Looney Tunes, this will be forever a classic

South Park

Again, haven't seen much of it like Family Guy but from what I've seen, I understand its popularity. Hilarious show.

I made a mistake in the King of the Hill bio saying that it was the second longer animated show behind the Simpsons, the source I was reading must have been talking about Fox because South Park has more episodes.

And that's it. Thanks for everyone who submitted a list. It was obvious from the start who was going to win it but South Park came very close! 2 points off. Simpsons didn't walk it like we all expected.

Indeed, I thought no one watched it. ;)

Tom and Jerry were the bomb, the originals and not the sanitised 'we can't show violence to children' rubbish versions they have on these days.

Surprised The Simpsons were deemed #1 though, I thought a lot of people went off it years back.

I appreciate the criticism though anyways
