We are not in a bad position - bar Norwich, no one has really gone balls out so far when it comes to signings.

That’s true, it’s picked up the last few days I’ve noticed though.

Supposedly we've matched Wednesday's offer for Josh Windass, another player we've been in for in the past when we were outbid by Wigan, also looked at him when he was at Accy.

Callum Johnson not announced yet, might have been premature that one.

Saw us linked with Johnson as well today, amongst some Scottish sides as well. However we have also been linked more heavily today with Bree coming back permanently and we surely wouldn’t go for both.

I must admit I’m not as high on Bree as some, he did have a good final 9 games but he was pretty poor for a lot of the season before that although was asked to play left back for some of it so perhaps unfair on him. When played at right back he was better but didn’t come into his own until the run in. He’s apparently on over 20k a week at Villa so would likely want to come in as a top earner (hed be lucky to get half that here though!) and I’m not sure he’s necessarily worth that kind of outlay. Don’t get me wrong I Won’t be upset if he comes back and NJ has a track record of improving players like him, but I do think I there are a few fans over rating him a touch.

I'm hoping if our interest in Callum Johnson is dropped then it means Darnell Fisher is signing a contract extension.

Could only see us signing Johnson if Fisher is being readied for an exit.

Looking at the reaction, I'd say us signing Johnson would be a shrewd move - looks like he's really got a good partnership with Jordan Clark on Accrington's RH side. It would mean 3 players from their "team of the 2010s" in our side now. And Jones is big on partnerships down the flanks.

He is heading into the last year of his 3 year deal there - I think an offer of £400k may snare him.

Based on what he's earning at Villa and what they paid for him, us to sign Bree permanently, despite him being a revelation at the end of last season, wouldn't be value for money.

Johnson is out of contract, it'd be either compo or a tribunal.

They'll get nothing if he goes to Sweaty Land.

This is my view too, I think Johnson might represent better value for money given how much Bree is going to want wages wise and whatever Villa want. Especially as we need a centre half, probably another attacking player and a left back (although not everyone agrees with that one!) im not sure spending a decent chunk of our quite small budget is a good idea when there are perhaps more shrewd options out there.

This is looking pretty academic anyway, as seemingly Luton are in advanced talks with James Bree.

I hope we're not breaking the bank to re-sign him. Kudos to Jones though for getting his actual potential out of him v the other Jones who made him a liability.

Luton Town are in for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester City on loan for the season. A midfielder who spent time and scored 4 times for Blackpool last year.

His goal record is beyond dire but was used 18 times in the Prem last season so must bring something to the table.
Bit of a monster of a bloke, would be a step up from a 35yr old David Nugent anyway.

Surprised no one at this level has gone for Jonson Clarke-Harris at Bristol Rovers. A move to Charlton collapsed on deadline day in January and the club we’re looking at £2.5m. They are now saying sign a new deal or go... he could be signed for £700k and is interesting Ipswich (again, where is the salary cap?) For me he looks like a real player based on the limited footage I’ve seen on him.

Jordan Hugill's signing is finally confirmed. It's a 3 year deal with an initial fee believed to be around £2.6 million, but potentially rising to £5 million after add-ons.

After doing some research, he looks like he'll be an excellent signing. Offers a different option to Pukki and Idah, one that we've sorely been lacking over the last couple of years. As an added bonus, his arrival should only hasten the departure of the useless Drmic.
It's also nice to sign a player who already knows the league for once, so no need to worry about him having to adjust to English football like a lot of our other new signings.

EDIT: Meanwhile, young midfielder Aidan Fitzpatrick has gone to Queen of the South on loan for the season.

Luton have bid seemingly well over £1m for James Bree with a deal close.

Villa paid £3m for him 3 years ago; he’s entering the last year of his £1m a year contract.

Be surprised if it’s that much. Think it will be under that up front, perhaps 6-700k with a load of clauses which if he reaches im sure we’d happily hand over the remaining cash to get up to that kind of money.

Think it’s way to much for him if we are putting that up front. I wouldn’t be looking to break our transfer record for him. As I said above, I like him but hope our judgement isn’t being clouded by some good games toward the end of the season. If you would have asked a lot of Town fans at the start of lockdown if you would have him back I think the answer would be a definite no from the majority.

Think it'll come down to wages with Jamal Lowe and he'll go to Swansea.

Bidwell went to them over us last season and Gallagher/ Brewster joined them on loan over us in January too but seemingly that was more down to the manager knowing them.

Yep, supposedly gone in with an improved bid and it's pretty much a done deal.

Can't say i'm too fussed, I wouldn't have him ahead of Barkhuizen and Sinclair but we need better back up than Bodin.

Another couple of youngsters sent out on loan by us, with Sebastian Soto and Dan Adshead both joining Dutch side SC Telstar for the season. We seem to have quite a positive link-up with them as of late, as we send them a lot of youngsters on loan in recent times.
