Not hugely surprised or concerned with that.

He had some good games last season but my over riding memory of him will be the countless times under GJ he got played despite being horrendously out of form and watching him point and shout as his midfield runner sailed past him as if he weren’t there only for him to blame the defence for the inevitable goal/chance we conceded as a result.

Do think we need to look at getting something else in that position though, need a physical box to box type midfield player in there imo.

I really liked him when we had him on loan in the League 1 season, was just a bit unfortunate (from his point of view!) that we got on a roll and he couldn't force his way back in, eventually ending his loan early.

Seems to have slightly moved position to a bit deeper central midfield since then if im not wrong? Only thing with that is that Championship midfields tend to be incredibly athletic and physically imposing, that was, one of a few areas, where the step up from Leagues 1 and 2 was really apparent. So id be interested to see how deals with that in that position. But certainly got the technical ability for it.

Noticeably stronger this season. Not stupidly bulked up but enough to notice the difference in how he can hold off players (at L1 level anyway).

Played wide left of a front three, as a '10', CM and a '6' at varying times. Only covered as deep as '6' out of necessity rather than choice. Appleton's turned him into more of a central player now, partly because he's not likely to run past people, which is how he likes his wingers to be but also because Grant added a work rate to his technical game.

Been outstanding this season and fully deserves his move. He could have walked away on a free this summer but chose to sign a new deal, which meant he'd stay if we went up but there was a release clause for Championship Clubs if we didn't. The release clause is pretty low by all accounts and Forest are due a high sell-on fee (we signed him on a free with just a sell-on clause) so it'll not do us much good financially.

If its a low release clause i wouldnt mind us taking a look at it and be somewhat surprised if we hadnt. We need someone of his kind of creativity to replace Dewsbury-Hall and he is somewhat similar in type to him. Wages be the issue for us though id guess.

Sounded like we will be signing a couple more over the coming days/next week and that might be us done going off NJs interview from pre season training. Wanted to get everyone in as early as possible and sounded like it was again looking at binging the squad age down again as he returned to that point multiple times, so I’d expect Jerome, Lansbury to be the last of the 30+ types and these as yet unnamed newer ones will be more in the mould of Onyedinma, Burke, Campbell etc.

Having said that, NJ is a known BS merchant when it comes to transfers (mentioned we had been chasing Allan Campbell for over a year when a month ago he’d never heard of him apparently!) so who knows.

All very quiet with us at the moment although the strongest murmurs are that we’re close to signing goalkeeper Matija Sarkic on loan from Wolves and Martyn Waghorn on a free transfer.

Luton have signed Amari’i Bell, a left back, from Blackburn from where he was released. He was actually on my list of possibilities a couple of months ago as potential signings.

6th signing so far is Amari’i Bell on a free from Blackburn. Left back which in my view has been a position of need pretty much since JJ left so good to get one in.

27 so decent age reaching what you’d hope are peak years.

Do have to say though with the talk about squad age I thought we might be looking in that 20-23 age bracket and think only Campbell really falls into that category.

Dare I say it, we are putting together quite the competitive squad this summer, with a lot more depth than before. Whilst I think Jerome is a shrewd signing, we still need to get another goal scorer. Joe Piggott has been mentioned, but I’m not sure he’s going to be able to step up.

We will probably sign a third goalkeeper. Our defence is looking as strong as it’s ever been. Midfield is waiting on Mpanzu and later in the window maybe KDH.

I certainly think the aim could be top 8 rather than top 12.

There seems to be a real split of clubs this summer - the likes of Derby and Reading likely to be still under a transfer embargo haven't done anything. Some clubs that are aiming for promotion likely to be waiting until Premier League clubs come back fully after the Euros and the rest of the division taking on some real bargains.

I expect the next 7 days to be very busy as officially the new season starts on Thursday and all clubs get back to pre-season training.

Dont think im quite as bullish as this, maybe because im not factoring in KDH coming back which still to me seems like a bit of a pipe dream and there remains a Pelly shaped hole in there too. Remains to be seen what happens with Morrell.

Feel like we could do with another wide player in the mix, we have Clark, Cornick, Onyedinma think another in there would be useful.

Defence looking really strong though like you say. Probably a few need to go out the door now, still have Lee and Hylton who really need to find clubs.

I see that Sonny Carey went to Blackpool in the end. We were linked with him as well and apparently had a bid turned down according to the Kings Lynn local press.

Some other things:

Blackpools signing so far seem to be really young, they definitely have a model there in terms of who they are recruiting and i think long term its pretty smart, but i wonder if the step up will be a bit too much for them at least initially this season. Asking a lot of players who are 20-24 who havent really played too much at league level from the looks of it, albeit are well rated.

Birmingham also made 2 good moves there with Aneke and Woods. Woods especially on a free is good business, always rated him going back to his Shrewsbury days.
