We rejected £15m with add ons from Bournemouth in the summer, given the way our form has gone of late wouldn’t surprise me if we accepted a similar offer now.

He’s young and needs more development, but really think he could go far in the game, got all the qualities of a top class CB.

In other news, Judge going to Ipswich on a permanent deal. The fee will be about £1m, with add ons if they stay up. Decent business for Ipswich, but he’s just never been the same since the injury. Good for us to get a fee for a player who we’ll release for free in the summer.

Yennaris also just about gone to a club in China for £5m. Blinding business by our DoFs. For about the 4th season in a row we’ll have made over £20m in transfer fees which is amazing work.

And where is it getting you, back to league one in no time.

Sorry mate but that’s a truly stupid comment.

We have no income compared to any of the clubs at this level. Consistently have turnovers and wage budgets in the bottom 3-4 teams. In order to fund even that, we have to make huge profits from transfer fees.

And that strategy so far has led to 4 consecutive Top 10 finishes, so it’s been working pretty well.

I’m glad my team is being sensible about how the club is run, instead of spending well beyond our means, breaking FFP and running the club into the ground, like half the teams in this league seem to be doing. Let’s see who’s better off long term.

Anyway, rant over. Season isn’t over yet, we’ll be closer to 10th again than the relegation zone.

I understand you've got a low budget but constantly selling all of your good players isn't good for the fans is it.

It doesn’t make life easy but nothing else we can do. Can’t afford not to, and arguably at the rate we keep finding good players at cheap prices, it’d good business and footballing sense to keep selling them.

Brownhill been told he can leave according go TeamTalk (no idea how credible?) with 3 PL clubs interested. That’d be a blow.

I have mates/work colleagues from both sides of this new found Wolves/Villa rivalry, Wolves relentlessly baiting the Villa lot, the Villa lot falling over themselves to tell the Wolves lot how little they feature on Villa’s radar...it doesn’t help the Villa fans cause when their own official Twitter account gets drawn into bickering with Wolves fans, very petty this on a thread discussing who’s “bigger”...

I saw that about the official Villa twitter page chriping on about attendances. They'll reminds us about 1982 next.

Maybe try to keep hold and fully go for promotion, no offence but I doubt you'll have as good a chance/team's you've had in the last 3 year's for a long long time again.

Presume we got a sell-on included in the compo.

Their fans are becoming a bit irritating, and they have all come out the woodwork all of a sudden, but I honestly have little care for wolves. I think they are a decent club, and we’ve never had much bother with them over the years. If they win, lose or draw I don’t care . Obviously the rivalry has heated up slightly, but as a whole I can honestly say our fanbase don’t give a fuck about them. I’m just saying it how it is. Our twitter is cringe as fuck tbf.

It's defintely an age thing. If we end up going down and you go up I can guarantee your fans would be swaming all our forums, radio phone ins, down the pub, etc to rub our noses in it. When you were in the Prem I agree there wasn't any rivalry, we both got on against the Blues and WBA but it seems to have shifted now. Also hasn't helped that it's been 7 or 8 years since we played the Albion which has only added to this. From a personal standpoint I know a lot more Villa fans than any other team, so this new rivalry is welcome to me.

Will probably leave it there though, don't think anyone else gives much of a shit about the Villa/Wolves spat.

If we keep hold and 'have a go' we could easily screw the club financially for many years to come. At the moment we're showing an ability to sell our best players, buy for less, pocket the profit (which goes straight back into raising the budget for next year, and paying for the stadium we're building) and keep challenging in this league.

Plus, there's loads of examples of other clubs 'having a go', spending loads and getting nowhere, I could name half the teams in this league! It's no guarantee, I'd rather we keep doing what we're doing, and one year hopefully it'll all come together.

Finally - we might have sold a lot of players this year, but almost none are from the first XI. Arguably we still have all of our most valuable assets (Mepham, Watkins, Maupay).

Depends what you want as fans, if your happy being a steady championship club then that's fine but you've had all the players required to challenge promotion for the last few years without spending loads, maybe if you'd kept a few for just a little longer you'd be a premiership club now. You've given us two top class defenders anyway, although wilder has a hell of a lot to do with Jack oconells rapid progression. Egan is the perfect centre half for us too in the middle of our other two 'attacking' centre halves.

Glad those two are doing well - Egan always did well for us, shame for him that Mepham came through when he did - think we were determined to let the young guy have a chance after we lost Mawson because his route to the first team was blocked.

Same with O’Connell, always looked great when he played but even still the other three at the time were better.

I get your point about keeping players but if we don’t sell Jota, then Watkins never comes through. If we don’t sell Hogan then Maupay never comes through. Etc etc.

By and large players are replaced pretty quickly, and it keeps us going. I’d love to get promoted but we’ve all got to recognise that even staying in this league each year is a massive achievement for a club with our budget, and despite that - seeing how the club and squad is growing stronger each year, this tactic will get us to the PL soon enough IMO.

Leeds after O'Dowda according to Sky. I'd be indifferent about it, said to Kev the other day we signed the wrong player from Oxford and now it seems they may want the one we actually did sign.

Mepham to Bournemouth for £15m, add ons taking it to £21m (though some completely unrealistic like Bournemouth qualifying for Champions League), and a big sell-on %age as is usual for us.

Great business, massive shame to lose him as I think he's the player with the most potential I've seen in a Brentford shirt. I'm sure he'll go far, and one day will play for a Top 6 team.

As it is, we'll probably try to get by with Jeanvier and Konsa for the rest of this year (both very good options) and stock up again in the summer.

On the incomings side, we’re being linked with a £2.7m move for Kiril Despodov.

Bulgarian player of the year, 22 year old Forward for CSKA Sofia. Apparently Villa and Leeds also interested but we’re the only ones to have made an actual bid.

What's the ambition at Brentford? It's great for your owner as he's making lots of money out of the current format you have, but it must be frustrating for fans to see any decent players you have get sold.

He’s not making any money. We still lose money every year (though this year we probably will turn a profit). Everything we make goes back into the club. He’s stopped subsidising our losses to the same extent as he used to, but that’s perfectly reasonable (he doesn’t have endless sums of money), but he must have put £100m in to date since he bought the club (he’s paying for the new stadium completely out of his own pocket).

Don’t forget just how big the revenue gap is between us and the other clubs in this league. Just staying in this league as long as we have is a magnificent achievement, let alone finishing in the Top 10 and challenging for promotion every year (sure, this year at the moment being the exception).

All this transfer strategy does is level the playing field a little (we still only have a bottom 6 budget).

The ambition is very much to get promoted to the PL. Just one season there pays for over 10 years of our current budget. But we won’t do it at a risk to the club’s long term future (we’ve been too close to going bust too many times in the past).

Not every team can go out and buy Ruben Neves.

And yes, it’s frustrating when you look at the players we’ve sold, and how well they’ve done since leaving (though loads have also done quite poorly after going). But if we’d kept them all we’d be racking up huge debt and failing FFP every year. And still there would be no guarantee we’d have gone up, or even been that much closer to challenging.

And despite selling them all (read that if Mepham and Yennaris are sold, we’ll have made over £100m in sales since joining the Championship), we arguably have a stronger team now than ever before. And because of the sales we’ll have bigger budgets in the future to keep on improving.

Where?

3 year deal Aug 2016
Seen it a few places.. most of our contracts seem to have a year option inserted in so assuming the same will apply with COD

I want him to stay too.. clearly has alot of potential and is one of a few in our current squad that will have a decent career in the prem imo
