Random rumour someone has mentioned that Solihull want Dior Angus. I’m sure they do but I can’t see him leaving us at all, he’s got a year left on contract and would expect him to play loads of games for us this season.

I would really hope we keep Dior. We don't need to sell and he will be an important player for us next season. I like him a lot.

Figured out some of our trialists from tonight:

Will Calligan
Chris Taylor
Jamie Cooke
Gerry McDonagh
Ben Carlton
Raul Correia

Common theme amongst the majority of them. Either failed players at this level or completely unproven kids.

Correia is one I remember from when he played against us. I think it was Guiseley. Think it was a game where they really riled up our fans by playing every time-wasting trick in the book because they were getting a decent result and he went down injured two or three times in the space of 5 mins. Caused us problems too, but it was probably the best game he ever played looking at his record since

We finally have some names for the trialists that have been involved over last few weeks if anyone has any opinions on them?:

James (Jim) Kellermann (Ex Aldershot & Kiddie)
Melvin Minter (Ex Harrogate GK)

Also unconfirmed, but suggested that the other trialist is Virgil Gomis, but we haven’t really seen much of him

Kellermann seems a versatile player who could be a good squad player for us, and Rowe clearly knows him from his time at Shots. I wouldn’t be totally against us giving him a deal tbf. The keeper Minter looked decent when he was on aswell.

He was shocking tonight. Caught offside about 5/6 times. Loads of loose touches and skied a decent chance over the stand. McDonagh was no better. If those 2 are the best solutions we can come up with to replace Hyde then it's going to be a very long season...

Haha Virgil Gomis. His scoring record makes him look a better player than he actually is.

Couple of years since he was with us, but Gomis was one of those players who is just a bit fast and has nothing beyond that to offer whatsoever.

I remember Kellermann being decent at Aldershot, that was when they were good and not rubbish.

My SWFC supporting mate despises him, one of the worst they’ve ever had according to him.

Granted, that was whilst playing 3 divisions higher than this league, but was a good few years ago he played for them. Where was he at last season?

Always seem to remember him being a bit of a dead ball specialist

This is the worry, he's not really been anywhere. He had a few games at Oldham pre-covid and since then he's been coaching at Burnley, studying for a Masters and training with Barrow. But he's not actually played since January 2020.

As above, Correia was shite for us and released by the end of September.

Interestingly, he starred in Euro 2020 this summer... he was the footballer in the Ladbrokes ad with all those drums on the pitch.

Just realised that's our Chris Taylor too - most of our fans will tell you he's useless because they made their minds up on him before he kicked a ball. He's not anything special, but seems a hard worker and put in a few really good performances last season. He could certainly do a job in the Conference.

Had no idea he'd been training with us - looks like it was only for a few weeks while that twat Jolley was in charge. He must be crap if we didn't even bother to sign him up, as we were desperate!

Kellerman is an interesting one. He's clearly very talented and was training with us for all of the 19-20 season while he was recovering from an awful knee injury. He then signed about a week before the season ended and was injured again going into the new season. Came back from injury and got sent off after coming off the bench then the season got ended again. Never really saw him but he's clearly a good player who has an awful injury record.

We had some bad players last season (about 45 of them) Gomis certainly makes the top 3 shit ones and there’s a strong argument for first place.

The only thing stopping him being the worse one is that mercifully he only played 5 games.

In the article I read he was with you because of his connections with Jolley and Dunn. I dont think it was with a view to signing, sounds like he was looking for a club higher up the pyramid at the time. Its a bit strange, a long time to be without a club when you are 36.

Jim Kellerman a very good box-to-box player, EFL standard I would say, and played 60-odd games for us, scored a few too. But plagued by injuries, and often played when obviously not fully fit. So a bit dodgy, I would say, unless he’s conquered his problems.

The fact Rowe named him suggests we are interested. Another player with an injury record, Rowe seems to like them. Assume they were together at Shots at some point.

He played CB last night though after we had some injuries which is pretty harsh playing a trialist out of position I always think.

Was Pearson not a marquee signing for you?
Nah, we're obviously delighted to have him on board but a marquee signing is one that the entire rest of the division is jealous of (Quigley, Madden, Mullin, etc). As much as I love Pearson and I think every club in this division would want him in their squad, he doesn't quite have that wow factor.
Their squad is enormous, surely a few need to be moved on first.

We’ve got one hell on a transfer list but the squad isn’t ‘enormous’ even with those on the transfer list included

30 players officially in the squad but one is Sam Russell (GK coach), 4 of them are first-year pros, ones out on loan and another 6 have been told they can look elsewhere and haven’t been involved in pre-season in any capacity. Obviously players don’t just disappear but Hurst said in May that those excess players wouldn’t affect the budget for this year. Would expect 3-4 more signings before we’re finished.
Yeah, ideally we'd offload those 6 that are listed (Idehen, Rose, Morais, Williams, Gibson, Jackson Jr) to take us down to 24. You mention 4 first year pros, but we've got second year pros in that too. 7 of those 25 are 20 years old or under. So that's essentially 13 out of 30 that aren't necessarily going to feature a great deal. Perhaps Khouri might be the exception there. I'm still holding out hope that Morais might get forgiven too. But we're looking at a core squad of senior players of 17 right now. True that we've got a big squad on paper, but when you dig a little deeper it's fairly thin. I don't think we need to offload before we bring any in though, despite it being preferable.

It was when we were in this league, it was his inability to secure somebody who even remotely looked like scoring in January that really hammered the nails in our relegation coffin. That fact really worries me going into this season because we’re running out of time and as it stands, we don’t have one goal scorer, never mind two.

I’m hoping that we’re quiet atm as we’re holding out for a big name but been disappointed too many times so expecting us to sign a PL youngster when the loan market gets properly up and running.
Ugh yeah, I'm trying to ignore this feeling but you're definitely not alone there, mates.

Think he's a CB, haven't seen him play, sorry.

He played last night at Wakering, was ok nothing spectacular. Also played in midfield for a part of the game, McMahon loves playing a centre back in midfield.
