Strong rumours that Dean Furman will be signing tomorrow. He's looked excellent on trial, and exactly the type of player we need.

Exactly what we need and suspect he’ll be our captain too.

Phil Brown hasn't got a clue has he? Why would you make a starting player for most teams at this level available on a free? Would take him back here in a heartbeat.

Because he's a fucking idiot. (Brown that is)

We were rumoured to be after Akinde but he went off injured tonight. Can't wait to use Akinola's wages on Ricky Holmes.

Our strikers currently are Murphy, Rush and Dalby.

Worrying

Just the 1 trialist for us tonight, a winger that some think they’ve identified as Zeli Ismael.

I’d have taken him all day long when he was leaving Braintree and Barnet but we’re well covered in that position now.

In fact, I could quite easily see him ending up back at Barnet as they don’t have much in the way of strikers other than Marriott and Bloomfield, the 2nd of whom isn’t good enough IMO.

Holmes has had chronic injuries for over a decade. Brown's transfer policy is just to sign as many players who were decent in the EFL in 2016 as he can

There have been rumours that we are looking to bring him back for a few weeks now.

We had Billy Clarke on trial tonight? Any good. You signed him enough times so there must be something there :pmsl:
Like marmite with our fans. I personally rated him highly in his first spell but his second and third spells were poor. The type of player that needs the attack built around him really.

Has to play at 10 because be hasn't got the legs to play wide anymore but a very technical and intelligent player if that suits your style. Poor finisher though.

Another new trialist for us tonight as well as Billy Clarke was centre back Jesse Debrah. Any Dulwich fans on here? He looked pretty solid tonight.

He's clearly fallen out with Akinola at some point. I would have given him a go, just based on his previous record at this level, but having watched him last season, where his end product was atrocious (and I'm being kind there) for me personally I'm not fussed that he's off.

Apparently we're to sign a centre forward that will 'raise eyebrows' most saying Akinde, but he told us to bugger off in January so I'm not really sure why he'd join now.
This being Southend I'm a bit worried as to why eyebrows would be raised with the signing, Rhead maybe?!?

Could have all our striking eggs firmly in the Murphy basket come the start of the season, but Brown loves a lone striker so all he's got to do is keep him fit and it might come off.

Holmes is here cos he's a Southend fan. I'm torn with him, watching him his set pieces, ball delivery and passing are just a class apart but he can barely move and I think we'd be lucky to get half hour out of him in a game if we play him in a midfield or wide role.
Maybe as a second striker he could work just as long as no one is hoping for him to do much else than pass it around and play some balls into the box.
Really his wages would be better spent elsewhere.

Is Dennis Healy a Southend fan

Mitchell signed for County by the looks of it. Not sure why they want our cast offs so much, it hasn't worked out very well when we've been taking their cast offs previously!

To be fair if we are talking cast offs most of our fans thought Hollis was pretty useless and laughed when Chessie signed him a few months after his release from Meadow Lane (via an unsuccessful spell at FGR) and you lot love him so much he’s been christened Virgil Van Hollis. So we’ll see. Plus some Chessie fans were getting pretty excited at the thought of signing another of our ‘cast offs’ (Enzio) this summer.

The clubs have done plenty of business over the years, some more successful than others!

I liked Taylor, i reckon he'll be a good signing for you. Mitchell.....less so.

Yes, no concerns about Taylor, Mitchell we’ll see. If his main role is to try and hold it up and tee up his more talented colleagues while filling in for Wootton he might be fine.

If it is him I always liked him, but like all wingers he can inconsistent. When last in Div 2 we played against him and he was a massive handful, all attacks came through him. The next week he returned to his parent club from his loan and bizarrely was playing us again. This time he was largely absent. Same player, two different clubs a week or so apart, but very different impact.

The only reason to keep Akinola would be his record in the NL at other clubs. If it was based on his performances last year then then no-one would want to be keeping him.

I don’t get how a guy playing upfront for a relegated team has become a scapegoat.

Didn’t he not play for the first few months too?

The fact is you’re in the national league where he’s proven.

You’ve signed a midfielder in James Dunne who was crap in a team that’s came bottom of this league last season. We picked up after he was furloughed.

Speaking of successes from 2016, who is ready for "Dan Holman" to start popping up on Gillette Soccer Saturday on the regular?
