You’ve tapped up a contracted player without agreeing a fee or getting permission, you obviously have been underhand as you’ve been with that player you’ve just signed from Gloucester.
Yeah, the evidence of the last few days involving two players now suggests there's been a bit of dodgy business going on.

Mind you, I can't summon up the energy to be that arsed about it really as Taylor was going to leave us for someone anyway.

I’m fairly certain we as a club are well within our rights to talk to an agent about the possibility of their client being available/interested.

Surely that is all that’s happened here? e.g:

- We’ve contacted the agent or vice versus
- They’ve then gone to their client (Taylor) and explained that we’re interested
- Taylor’s then forced the transfer through from his end by making it clear he wants to come to CFC
- Clubs have then agreed a fee and looks like the dead now all but confirmed

Fairly certain that’s how it works at all levels of football to be honest.

Yeah that’s called tapping up. Also you forgot the bit where after unsettling the player you then leaked to your local press you had agreed a loan deal when you hadn’t, to try and force Chester’s hand and get him for nothing as the player at this point had refused to play for them again.

You’ve got the new manager you wanted and three new players who look like they are going to improve you greatly so I’m not surprised you’re happy and don’t really care how you got them but let’s not pretend there hasn’t been lots of snakey behaviour since you sacked Pemberton.

I understand where you’re coming from but what’s the problem when it’s done within the rules?

Might not be the most moral of acts but at the end of the day JR and our board are going to do everything they can to get the best deals they can for potential incomings. As I said, it happens at all levels of football and it’s just part and parcel of the game these days I guess.

The rules are to make a bid or ask permission of the club to speak to the player/agent.

You’ve got the players you wanted so it’s worked in the short term but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Gloucester and Chester make complaints to the FA and other clubs are going to be wary of dealing with you.

Completely understand your frustrations, but unfortunately that is the way the world works isn’t it. If someone offers you much more money to do the same job, 9/10 you’re going to be jumping at the opportunity, and it’s the same in football isn’t it...

In regards us coming in with a low/cheeky bid for Taylor... I guess that’s just business for you. Your club is well within its rights to reject/negotiate it and whilst ever he’s a contracted player with Chester the balls always going to be in your court.
Someone has just said that it would be better dealing with Sir Philip Green than Chesterfield knowing their financial integrity (or lack of it).

If these signings help us towards getting back to the Football League I doubt anyone associated with the club will worry about how we may/may not have acted with integrity in a couple of transfer dealings along the way!!

Let’s see how it all works out... as we all know, there’s no guarantees in football and it’s yet to be seen if these guys end up a success or not at our club

Someone in Devachats been on crack and obviously hasn’t been a fan of the various guises a of football teams in Chester very long if hes making comments like that when you’ve endured and suffered the death of the club under Vaughan.

We haven’t signed anyone from Gloucester, their is a clause in the deal post Asante. We’ve signed a free agent and a lad from Chester today.
There is some very classy comments on Gloucesters forum wishing serious injury on players for have the guile to leave them though. Weird flex

i think it was said a little tongue in cheek personally I hope Joel is a massive success for you as that would mean more more money for us, I think both parties should be very happy.

To be fair, the same poster does also mention that we aren't ones to take the moral high ground when it comes to finances but he's not wrong about you either if we're being honest about it. You can go back ages and dispute that sort of thing, we could even drag up the Beckett fiasco with you again if we go back far enough.

I do think it's all been a bit underhand, as with the Carline deal and how he came to be a free agent. But it worked out in the end.

Yeah sorry, didn't know the context just saw on our forum there was a couple of posts about our past and Luke Beckett etc. Thought it was slightly ironic that's all.

We're owned by the Community Trust, a charity doing a lot of good work in and around the town so they have no reason to be questioned. The amount of red tape for them to own the club and secure funding from 3 of the 5 local councils was ridiculous as you can imagine, so they'll be very much by the book I suspect.

I'd be quite surprised if Mike Goodwin acted in a a shady or underhand the way. The man is a gentlemen and good person. I'm not sure quite yet I'd put something a little dodgy past this new manager. He seems a likeable sort but there's obviously an ambition behind the smile. It sucks to have your best players sniped, especially if it seems quite obvious that an approach has been questionable, but it's just the nature of football isn't it. We've had tonnes of our players snatched over the years too. It's horrible when it happens to you, but if it helps us stop being this relegation fodder we've been over the last 5 or 6 years, I gotta be honest, I'm not gonna lose much sleep over it

I think it’s the manager that people are alluding to not anyone on the board of Your club, don’t worry about it it’s all done and dusted now and both parties should be happy with the outcome.

Because with our pauper budget (really should get that trademarked), we can’t afford to put him on contract. Barnet can.

Really?? Why would he leave your club to join the circus?

Because we are a wealthy circus. The purse strings look like they are being loosened after our nightmare start.

Yeah just been reading that you’re only paying his expenses. No wonder then.
He’ll be good in the south next year

He’s a seasoned pro and a good player gutted not to see him in the flesh.

I’m sure his agent will put in a relegation release clause.

Surprised he didn’t stall for a week, because Beadle could be gone on Monday and may not be fancied by the new manager.

He would have to be pretty poor to not make our starting XI under any manager.

I would think we are trying to get this wrapped up ahead of tomorrow afternoon.

See this post I made a while back:

As I said there, for all his failings he has a great attitude, and not long after I made that post he suffered a horrific set of injuries that make it an achievement for him to even be walking now, let alone playing semi pro football, which says a lot about his attitude.

After seeing the pathetic performances our defence have put in this season I would take him back in a heartbeat despite all his flaws.

I do echo these comments though ^^

Think he was playing for Darlo (or someone like that) on loan from us when he suffered that horrific injury.

So it’s good to hear that he’s still in and around a decent level of football as he always seemed like a nice guy that put his all in.
