Some good sub plots to this one, Cal Mac returns for the first time since leaving and will get a well deserved great reception from the home support. Both teams have a shiny new striker to show off, Will Jordan Rhodes and Omar Bogle feature at some point? I'd imagine both will start on the bench. We're in a bit of form having won our last two league games, while Sheff Wed are winless in their last two. A win will get us back out the bottom three should Burton lose to Fulham tonight. Sheff Wed need to avoid defeat to go back into the playoffs.

I think Sheff Wed will just be too strong for us, we're still very weak in attack unless Bogle hits the ground running, By far our quickest most dangerous outlet Wildschut is gone and Sheff Wed have a solid defence & keeper. On the flip side, I can't see us keeping a clean sheet against an attack containing the likes of Forestieri, Winnall and Rhodes.

Wigan 0-1 Sheff Wed

A good window by Wigan barring losing Wildschut, Joyce has been backed by Whelan/Sharpe and now has to deliver safety IMHO.

Hard to blood in so many players in a short space of time but the break since the Man Yoo game will help the hosts.

We dropped points down at Bristol on Tuesday and now sit 7th with a raft of clubs waiting to pounce.

Rhodes should make his debut, albeit as a sub and barring bringing in McManaman I suspect we will start with the same XI as Tuesday.

Sold around 2,300 apparently but expect a few more now and will be hoping we can get back to winning ways after just one victory in our last 5 league fixtures.

1-2 Wednesday, Forestieri and Jones

Got to be looking at 3 points from this one which would then make the point at Bristol City not look too bad, hopefully Carlos takes a different tactical approach and gives Abdi and Macca a game, wishful thinking though. Should have more than enough about us to win this one and hoping this is where it finally all clicks and we see a few goals.

Wigan Athletic 1-3 Sheffield Wednesday

Westwood

Hunt
Lees
Loovens
Fox

Macca
Abdi
Jones
Forestieri

Winnall
Rhodes

Probably way too attack minded that line up so expect Reach to keep his place who's done well lately with Wallace on the other side, and there is no way he'll play Abdi over Bannan.

Would Winnall/ Rhodes work?

Both out and out poachers who have very little else to their game other than putting it in the net. Surely it's one or the other?

You might be right mate both pretty good in the air as well, would like to see Rhodes with Fletcher think that would work well but he's suspended currently. It's a real dilemma for Carlos at the minute as we have 4 strikers now who are more than good enough to get in most teams at this level, for me Forestieri isn't a striker. Wouldn't surprise me if Rhodes starts on the bench tonight anyway.

Not the best game very scrappy but good time to score, these are there for the taking be fools to sit back on this. Get Macca on after an hour when they start throwing men forward and I can see Rhodes finishing this off.

One of the worst games of football Sky will ever show. Spending ridiculous amounts of money clearly hasn't translated in to improved performances for them

An evening of my life I'll never get back. We deserved to lose for that negative first half. Like being back at OT treating Sheff Wed like Man Utd. Looked better after the subs, if Dan Burn was an inch taller we'd have had a point with the last kick. Hope Bogle starts vs Norwich, far more imposing than Grigg. Morsy is our best player by a mile, Jacobs is rubbish.

Aye watched it back on TV since that post and seen it. No one gambled at all, Connolly would have got that at the back post if he'd made the run.

A match which typifies our season.

Once again limit a decent opponent to next to nothing chance wise, we've got one of the best defensive rcords in the divisions and one of the leasts shot on target against us as we're very hard to break down. But a long punt up field and a shot taking a flukey deflection and from their only clear chance of the match Wednesday have a goal. Wednesday have a very strong defence and on paper 3, 20+ goal a season strikers but lack creativity in midfield, surprised they didn't buy a top centre mid in January, as that could cost them top 6, our midfield had Bannan and Jones cut out the game. Astounding Bannan got MOTM, passes were hit and miss and kept trying stupid back heels and flicks that were losing possession and getting loads of stick from the Wedneday fans. Number 39 was the stand out Sheff Wed player, solid as a rock at the back.

A scrappy game and whilst not at our best, performed much better regualrly over the past few months, Wednesday certainly didn't deserve to win that.

Not seen the replay but heard the right back played Connolly onside, as it was a very close call, for our disallowed goal. Weir, Grigg and Burn should all have scored, two misplaced headers from 6 yards out and a poor first touch from Grigg, when he should have gone through on goal. Wednesday were also very fortunate at the end of the first half when Loovens clearly obstructed Grigg as he was going through one on one, stepped in front of him and stopped dead in his tracks. Any where else on the pitch the ref would have given a foul, but bottled it as he'd have had to show a red for being the last man.

Lack of goals is killing us, hopefully Bogle can be key and Weir and Obertan's pace be crucial.

We lacked pace last night and if Yanic was still here I think we'd have won as their right back was poor and we had the beating of him, but a lack of pace meant we wasted a lot of potential attacks.

Just like the Brighton/Derby/Huddersfield/Newcastle home games our opponent scored their only shots on goal, whilst we failed to score any of ours, it's no good repeatedly saying we didn't deserve to lose because that gets you nothing at the end of the season.

We're playing a lot better than a good number of sides above us but failure to convert chances, means results aren't matching our perfomances on a whole.

More than happy to take the 3 points on Friday night in a game against a side battling for their lives, but the lack of creativity in the team at the moment is getting quite concerning. We could have Messi and Ronaldo up front at the moment and we'd still probably struggle to give them service, one shot on target all game is shockingly bad with the talent we have. I think it's time for Carlos to stop being stubborn and make some tactical tweaks which includes taking Forestieri from up front and moving him out wide and the inclusion of Abdi as his forward creativity would help massively. I like Bannan but I think it's time he has a rest and would love a Abdi Hutch midfield combo, would also give Adam Reach a little spell on the sidelines as well. 3 points is 3 points but Christ that was bad viewing, we've got to improve against Birmingham on Friday night as they will probably punish us if we play like that again.
