Dover is terrible for shopping, but its history makes up for that.

Don’t come here expecting Oxford Street shopping, but you get Anglo-Saxon, Roman, medieval, onto WW2 history & beyond.

There are even enough pubs for away fans to come here for an away game

How quick and easy is it to get to? I love my team's time in this league and below and above anywhere in the London sprawl and slightly beyond was good. Cheap and easy travel is the priority.

Daggers and Barnet in L2, Ebbsfleet in the Conference, Woking and Sutton for the friendlies. Borehamwood is within easy reach but I've never had the inclination to go there.

If local crimes are your main metric then in all fairness Edgeley Park has that well beaten; but I'd still argue it's one of the better away days you'll experience (for transport & local amenities)

Stockport is a brilliant away day as far as they go at this level, but I'll steer clear of the town itself this time and drink in Manchester beforehand instead. GMP will be all over this fixture and knuckledraggers from both sides will be out in force.

If it's history you're after Kent's Cavern in Torquay is the site of the earliest evidence for Homo sapiens found in Britain and North-West Europe.

Gravesend and Dover are two of the worst towns in Kent without question. Even surpassing the Medway towns. The sad thing is, both towns have a great history and with the right investment could be booming. There is a new theme park that has been in the planning stage for years near Gravesend, but nothing has come of it as of yet.

If there was a 'best town' to be nominated, I'd go for Harrogate.

I always thought I visited some dumps in the NL (hell we’d probably be given as an example if we were still there), but joining League 2 opened my eyes to just as much shit. Crawley is the worst town I’ve visited in England. I can handle a typical shithole with a bit of character, even the traditional ‘bad towns’ like Sunderland and Luton have something about them and are alright for a mooch around. Crawley on the other hand is a void, soulless shithole with the character of a wellington boot and absolutely no local heritage. Add to that the fact everyone there is only there so they can commute elsewhere and outskirts of London pint prices and it’s just a visual representation of depression.

Nottingham is obviously an outsanding one. Harrogate is too posh for football. Chorley town centre is a decent visit, outer areas seemed rough; been a while since I've been to Hartlepool but I remember that marina area being nice. I remember having good days out in Chesterfield, Halifax & Wrexham although I presume outer areas are like being in a Channel 5 documentary. Fylde is the worst I've been to, it's just built to enable a supermarket being built five minutes away from a nondescript town

Interesting you should say that, because I always take Hartlepoool as a reminder that a town could always be much much worse than Grimsby! Cleethorpes in general is actually a nice town tbf other than the bit around Blundell Park.

I used to live in Grimsby on and off almost 2 years and comparing to Hartlepool, quite similar towns in many ways. Overall though I’d say it was rougher than Hartlepool. Some of the estates there are pretty bad. But it does have some posh parts that got burgled all the time, or at least that was the #bantz in the factory I was temping at. Again Hartlepool’s got some smarter parts which I’ve never come across in the likes of Scunthorpe or even worse, Gainsborough. Never been to Barra though must check that out. There’s definitely worse towns than Hartlepool.

Spent three months living in Gateshead town centre, very little that can beat that as the hellhole of all hellholes. Locals are canny though. Hartlepool isn't great either (though I did once have a good night in Seaton Carew somehow!). Leaving the north east alone, honourable mentions for Barra, Dagenham, Dover, Borehamwood, Bradford, Grimsby and Oldham, but the worst of the lot is Luton without question.
