Inspired by discussion in this thread:
http://www.onefootballforum.co.uk/i...s-premier-league-discussion-15-16.8690/page-2

I'd like to ask the members of this forum this question: Would you like to swap places with France's Ligue 1 or Germany's Bundesliga, if it meant lower ticket prices and a less business-orientated way of running the clubs, but on the other hand that the Premier League had the finances of those leagues (approximately) and would be forced to sell 10% of its best players instead of buying many of the best players of other leagues.

Disclaimer: I respect both views. I admire the Bundesliga a lot. At the same time I find the Premier League the most exciting and enjoyable, as well as having the best overall quality of players. Most of all, I'm not English, not even British, and as a fan of the Premier League and the way it's doing its business, I'm merely curious to find out how the members of this forum feel about this matter.

"In Germany a majority control by a single entity (person, or company) is not permitted by the league."

Reason number one on why the Bundesliga is infinitely superior to the PL. Football clubs are actually clubs.

If our "clubs" were clubs like theirs, is it certain we'd have way more English players developing like world cup 2014 winners germany, and one of the Euro favourites france?

I get the feeling people would in terms of how the German clubs are run off the pitch and how they respect the fans..

I'd swap with the Bundesliga for sure. Much more entertaining league, better atmosphere's throughout the entire football tiers over there. Cheap tickets, less mercernaries, less media bullshit and less expectancy. More of a reliance on home grown talent and youth players. I find it to be a very refreshing league. No to France, dire standard of football, painful to watch, barely any goals or entertainment, lightweight or arrogant players - look at how many frenchmen player for Newcastle and Aston Villa...then look at their league positions.

The FA have no control over it.
let me get this straight, the football association have no control over their own country's league, yet they are responsible for all the referring/handing out match bans and pretty much founded football by making it what it is today with rules etc :eyes:

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
There's defiantly pros, and I'd love to see terracing brought back and ticket prices in the PL are basically a discrace. With the TV revenues, they don't have to charge as much. People will happily cite 'supply and demand' but it's becoming extortionate and really is pricing people out.

But I wouldn't fancy the German league right now. Bayern Munich have won the league by 25, 19 and 10 (after downing tools with it won) and are already streaking away. It's hardly competitive. At least in England the title usually takes it down to the last couple of games or so.

And now they are being implicated in the 2006 World Cup corruption...

It's not ideal when four or five clubs wield all the power, it's worse when it's two or three like in Spain, but when it's basically one club calling the shots, and able to cherry pick the best players even from their closest rivals, then it can't be good long term.

but they control financial fair play, so they can restrict them, or is that fifa? Basically there is no hope of clubs in England becoming like those in other major european countries, so this thread is slightly pointless other than to get a small fan consensus on the matter

Yes.

I don't know why anyone would like to swap with Ligue 1. Running a football club is extortionate, and revenue is very low given the TV rights amount and the fact that no one goes to games in the lower leagues.
Germany is ok.

I do kinda wonder what would happen if the FA just decided to sever all ties to the Premier League. Would the Championship become the de facto top tier, or would UEFA ignore that and just continue to draw teams from the Premier League instead?

Also interesting, what would happen with promotion and relegation to the PL - presumably it'd cease, which would do what to the majority of teams that won't ever win it? Someone absolutely bottled it back in 1993 or whenever.

Really? In what respect? The actual football being played or the way the seasons play out with Bayern always winning in first gear?

A lot of predictable arguments being trotted out. One thing no one has considered is that I actually went to a game in Germany and it was really cold, and who wants that?

Yes, there is some distance between Ligue 1 and Bundesliga. Maybe I shouldn't have used both as example.

But I think people are underestimating - because I haven't seen it mentioned - how frustrating it can at times be to lose your best players not only to richer clubs in your own country, but to abroad as well.

Stoke have bought Diouf, Arnautovic and Wollscheid from mid-table Bundesliga clubs recently.
Tottenham bought Son.
We have bought Firmino and Can.
Wolfsburg made it to the CL, but still lost De Bruyne to the Prem after just one season.
Cisse, Mertesacker, Sigurdsson, Podolski, Okazaki...
This a lot of good players to lose to Premier League clubs.

The football being played, the atmosphere, the attacking style of football whilst having the ability to defend properly and be organised too. Much more entertaining league than the Premier League as a whole - less money based, less mercernaries - teams are closer to the fans etc.

Yeah it has to be said, the games in the Bundesliga are a lot more open and attacking and goal-y than their English counterparts. The teams may or may not be better but they're more fun to watch.

Mind you, we should all be cheering for Leicester to go all the way as that'd be a great breath of fresh air.

Not to mention that the fans actually bring an atmosphere to the game and don't just sit there.

Well you're essentially saying wealthy clubs buy players from less wealthy clubs. That happens in England all the time, it's just they usually end up at a domestic rival since all the money is here. Unsure why your best players generally being bought by direct competition in the same division is seen as a positive thing.

Yes, wealthy clubs buy players from less wealthy clubs. But the difference between England and Germany is that most English clubs don't have to worry about German clubs coming to poach the players they want to keep, whereas German clubs nowadays routinely lose players to even mid-table English clubs.
