Noting all these negative comments for when Pike is slamming home his 25th of the season in February. This is a data signing so none of you will understand it until the damage has been done.

Quite easily the most Hurst signing of the window so far:
Played for Shrewsbury and/or Scunthorpe? CHECK
Name not mentioned on the Fishy once? CHECK
Forward with a dubious scoring record? CHECK
When do we think Hurst will be gone by? The cynic in me says Christmas, but his standing with the fans and the club may give him until late February-early March.

Hursty masterminding a play off push at least I reckon.

Not sure ‘he was injured for us’ is exactly a review I’m likely to take forward when considering a players footballing abilities. I’ll keep it in mind though.

Keep telling yourself that. I’ve seen him play 30+ times.

Shite.

:D

Last week that. Ages ago in Grimsby Transfer life when Hursty signs a player every day. You've signed 4 or 5 more rejects since then.

He was woeful when we had him on loan a few years ago. That was a few years ago of course, but in the meantime I don't remember ever reading anything much that made it sound like he had exactly kicked on. Surprised he's played as many games in League One as he has.

Oh dear. I genuinely thought that he would get a Conference club at best. Terrible signing from Hursty.

Aha it doesn’t bother me that Grimsby have signed him. I’m just thankful that I don’t have to watch him after putting up with him for 3 years at Salop. Genuinely have no idea how he’s a professional footballer.
Sounds promising then. :D

The only thing that I remember about Pyke when he was with is was he had a weird run when he scored four back heeled goals in a row.

Have Bradford now got Cook, Oliver, Derbyshire, Smith and Young? Will be tough keeping all of them happy or are any of them being moved on?

Young will be shifted on.

Been out of favour since about October, spent the second half of last season at Barrow where he pulled up precisely zero trees.

I'd say Young is 100% going. Got bombed out very early on. Went to Barrow and was dreadful by all accounts .Not sure how Happy Oliver is - think if someone came in with an offer we may let him go. Derbyshire just happy to be out of the care home.

Ah yeah I'd forgotten Young went to Barrow.

I'd have Oliver here for sure. Doesn't seem like he's had a particularly easy time trying to either dislodge Cook or be paired with him when they're far from a match made in heaven.

Think Oliver is a very strange signing. Obviously not a 'Hughes type' striker. Got goals at League One level with Gillingham so he's definitely capable. Just doesn't fit our playstyle.

I wouldn't look to get rid of Oliver. If, as looks likely, we'll be playing with two strikers, he will be needed to compete with Cook for one of the spots and whilst the goals didn't flow for him last year, he didn't look a bad player.

I think Hughes just expected Cook to play second-fiddle when Oliver arrived. I mean, Cook did start the season on the bench.

Oliver did a job over the Xmas period. Notched a couple of goals when Cook was rested. Not to mention that last minute equaliser against Wimbledon (I think).

I can actually see Oliver leaving along with Young.

Pleased with the Smith signing, not prolific but decent experience playing higher up and brings much needed pace, alongside a great finisher in Cook and a very good target man in Oliver that’s a balance we’ve not had upfront for a long time.
