League 2 Round Up
League 2 Round-Up 18/10/08

On a dramatic weekend of League 2 action, we saw a total of 35 goals and 7 sendings off and draws were the order of the day.

The league leaders Wycombe scored a late, late penalty equaliser against Darlington at home this afternoon. Scott McGleish slotted away the spot kick in the 98th minute after his own team-mates Zebroski and Harrold ended up fighting each other earlier in the match. Darlington had taken the lead earlier through Kennedy before McGleish gave the Chairboy’s a point.

Second placed Bury claimed a comfortable 3-1 win away to Dagenham and Redbridge in a top 4 clash today, with goals from Stephen Dawson, Mike Jones and Elliott Bennett. Sam Saunders claimed a late consolation for the Daggers from 20 yards, but Bury claimed the 3 points.

Shrewsbury’s good run continued as they trounced Bournemouth at home this afternoon. Goals from Gylfi Sigurdsson and Richard Walker and 2 from Ben Davies gave the side from the New Meadow 3 points. Brett Pittman scored for Bournemouth.

Brentford’s unbeaten run continued away at Aldershot as the two sides played out a 1-1 draw. With Brentford very difficult to break down, perhaps it was inevitable that the goal they conceded was a penalty. Scott Davies tucked away the spot kick for Aldershot in the 14th minute, whilst Brentford’s penalty was converted by Glenn Poole in the 57th minute.

Bradford and Gillingham played out a 2-2 draw at Valley Parade this afternoon, as the Gills came from 2 goals down to snatch a point. Evergreen Peter Thorne scored first for Bradford, before Joe Colbeck added a second. However, Gillingham’s comeback began and was completed by Simeon Jackson in front of 12,000 fans.

Exeter drew with struggling Grimsby 0-0 at St James Park today in an uninspired match. Chances were few and far between, and Richard Logan’s header was the closest either side came to grabbing a winner.

Notts County, the division’s draw specialists, did the predictable thing, and drew with Macclesfield 1-1 at Meadow Lane. Delroy Facey finally opened his account for the Magpies, but Simon Yeo scored an undeserved equaliser for Macc, who put in a real backs-to-the-wall performance after Gareth Evans was sent off for a horror tackle on Adam Tann, who was carried off with a suspected broken leg.

Morecambe and Rochdale also drew 1-1. Chris Dagnall opened the scoring with a tap-in, but Aaron Taylor marked his debut with an equaliser to gain a point for Morecambe in front of 2,572.

Accrington consigned deduction-hit Luton Town to a 2-1 home defeat, with goals from Paul Mullin and Terry Gornell, and Lincoln claimed the honours in a local derby with Chesterfield, as Stefan Oakes, Adrian Patulea and Janos Kovacs found the back of the net.

The game of the day, however, came at Rotherham, where the hosts and Barnet shared 7 goals, with the Bees coming out 4-3 winners. Nick Fenton gave Rotherham the lead, but strikes from Luke Medley, Albert Adomah and 2 goals from Cliff Akurang saw Barnet into a 4-1 advantage. Goals from Ian Sharps and Mark Burchill made it a tense last ten minutes, but Barnet held on to claim the 3 points.
