Just making this thread in preparation for next time.

January 29th - current status - NOT IN CRISIS

In fact, with the addition of versatile defender Gabriel Paulista (who no less than the Home Office believes will “contribute significantly to thedevelopment of the game at the top level in England”), do Arsenal now have as complete a squad as Chelsea and Man City?

One to ponder.

Well, see you around.

They are changing it in summer so that players who cost more than £10m get a permit automatically. I think the fact that this rule is coming in probably helped with Paulista's, who didn't qualify for one unless considered a 'special talent'.

Really? So we can expect huge bids for average players...Nice one..Good bargaining chip for agents..

Yet another expensive flop from Wenger to go along with Ozil and Flamini.

The guy is rubbish in the transfer market.

Interested to see Gabriel. The comparisons to Koscielny are exciting—of course it took the Frenchman awhile to settle in. The emergence of Bellerin and Coquelin can prove equally as important to our squad depth.

I think we have the 3rd strongest squad, but our most obvious deficiency has been covered this window. Win the FA Cup. finish 3rd, qualify for the UCL QF, and we'll have made progress the second season running.

The next "crisis" seem destined to revolve around the futures of Wilshere and Szczesney.

I suppose if Flamini wasn't a free agent, that might be arguable. Wrong, but arguable. But I don't expect any sense from the Headington inbreds.

Arsenal need someone to step in and contribute now. Can he be the one to do that? No doubt better than playing a full back there but I would still want to sign a Vlaar or Reid who is proven at this level for the rest of the season.

Dejan Lovren was proven at this level.

Koscielny had played fewer Ligue 1 games than Gabriel has played in La Liga—where Villareal have an outstanding defensive record in likely the best league in Europe.

Vlaar is a stop-gap and Wenger must believe Gabriel has more potential as a 1st choice CB in the future than Reid. He's not being signed to contribute as our 1st choice CB now. In the last three matches (altered FA cup team aside), Ospina-Mertesacker-Koscielny have looked very stable—could very well keep a 4th consecutive clean sheet against Villa.

I could write another 10 on my own but I thought this was going to be a team effort.
