Comes as no surprise does it really? They have been awful in virtually every single department this season. No goals, weak at the back, they just look completely rudderless in all departments. Who next villa fans?

No surprise. The only surprise has been that he hasn't been sacked earlier. The fact that they lost last night and dropped into the bottom 3 probably decided it.Interesting to see who they give the job to.

Didn't he recently just sign a 4 year contract extension? That's a heavy pay off.

The early odds have Tim Sherwood and Jurgen Klinsmann as the favorites for the Aston Villa job.

That's our summer budget out the window :(

I was always a fan of his, I really thought he'd do us good. He came across as an intelligent, young up and coming manager who at least didn't strangle opposing players on the pitch. But I think the time has come for him to go, it's our only hope of survival which I think is quite a slim chance now. He tried his best but fell short, he wasn't supported by the charimen as much as he should have been but I still think he under performed.

I honestly wish him all the best, I hope he gets a job soon and does well.

Fucking great news. No more blowing millions on some average League 1 youngster.

Had a clause whereby they could sack him if they dropped into the bottom 3 apparently. Hence why he got the chop today.

This has been inevitable for a while, and might save Villa's season. To have only scored 12 league goals after 24 games is actually incredible. A new manager can't do any worse than Lambert has done this season. He'll get another job in the Championship again though, and do fine.

Timt for McLeish to return. He'll sort the place out.

BBC 5Live's Pat Murphy said Villa need to appoint a modern manager, and in the next sentence suggested Brian Little...

I've been listening and it's the fans. They've been calling in suggesting Little. Deluded morons.

I see all these managers banded (Eddie Howe and MaClaren to name two) but isn't Lerner trying to avoid increased outgoings?

I still cant believe I am hearing Villa fans spouting that they are too big to go down.

They won the European Cup you know!

Whilst he was always going to be linked I highly doubt McClaren would ever want to work under Lerner after the mess around he gave him before appointing McLeish in 2011.

Villa's message boards will probably go down into meltdown again if Steve is linked and Lerner will no doubt make another poor decision, so we're safe.

Have you managed to unwedge your tongue out of Villa's arse yet?
I seem to recall a rather lengthy period of myself, Spear and a hefty portion of Villa and Brum fans having a good debate about Lambert and how his record was better/worse than McLeish's at a given time.
However, I don't understand your comment. McLeish is a horrible manager who's appointment as Villa manager still baffles me to this day and I was always defending Lambert as he was trying new things (always said that his 352 didn't work for instance). I don't think I have my tongue in the club's arse though. I like Villa but I believe that they need to go down to rebuild as the place is a shambles. That they are doing so poorly with the players at their disposal (especially Benteke) is quite surprising.

I also don't remember where you stood in this debate. A lot of Brum fans got on with the Villa fans back in the day so maybe you had a soft spot for Lambert too.

Gonna be a hard sell getting in someone - past the transfer window and little to spend anyway, needing to avoid relegation, and since the owner wants out, when the club is sold the new owner might not think you're much kop and so are under immediate pressure.
