Time for me to say I'd like Klinsmann to become the manager like I do everytime the Villa job becomes vacant. Would be over the moon with Moyes as well, because it would be funny/entertaining and I think he would do well. Both are unlikely to happen, but out of those in the shorter odds bracket those are the two I favour.

The difference in resources both have had at their disposal is staggering, though. A manager's rep is held together by equal parts circumstance and luck, as well as ability. It would be interesting to see how Lambert would fare at a club that has ambition and would actually back him in the market, as I still believe that he has a lot to offer.

On on the face of it you have this grand old club, the very definition of a 'sleeping giant'. A club which measured by almost any yardstick, is one of the top 6 in the land. Great stadium, big fan base, amazing training facilities.....

Behind that though is a team that has been underfunded (shove your net spend) and a club that has been badly managed for pretty much four years. Now the owner wants out, but no one wants to buy us.
We have a disillusioned fan base who have suffered during that time amidst economic shit storms and rising prices, leading to falling attendances and a greater level of apathy....

To to top it off, I assume any new man will be under the same financial constraints as Lambert, with £10m a window (if that) and a restriction on wages. Any additional will rely on a growth in income or profit on sale of players.....

Its a tough, tough job and the Prem is cut throat - managers only tend to get one chance, if they **** up, further offers don't come around that often....
The good young up and coming managers might baulk at the size of the task and experienced candidates may just see it as a poison chalice.....

Yes, the investment has been non-existent since O'Neill left but even that doesn't fully account for how utterly awful Villa have been under Lambert. In top flight history there hasn't been a team score less goals after 25 games for example.

Actually come to think of it he'd have sent us down last year if he was our manager.

All Hoddle did in charge of England was qualify for the World Cup and then lose two of the four games once there (one on pens tbf). We started the Euro 2000 qualifiers poorly and then he got himself sacked.

He was better than Keegan, though.

Any manager will play to the strengths of the squad he has available. No matter how dispiriting the football might have been, I bet you that villa fans would rather stay up being boing than go down playing entertaining football. I don't think Lambert did a good job at Villa but then I don't think he should be judged too harshly for not doing a good job there either, given the funds and players he had to work with. Judging him against Rodgers is a facile comparison.

Because he oversees yoof development projects and had a reputation as a two-footed player, continental in style. It's stupid, but it certainly sounds romantic on paper.

Gave Spurs' younger players a proper shot when previous managers didn't, and got them a decent points total comparable with previous and current managers despite everyone knowing he was a caretaker.

Sure, the bizarre press conferences and interviews etc don't fill fans with confidence, plus we dont really know much about how good a manager he is, but his good points are often overlooked. Spurs are reaping the benefits of Kane, Mason etc with the exposure he gave them.

I think Sherwood would be just about ok at a club where the infrastructure is set up so that he'd continue with that clubs direction and policies, like at So'ton or Swansea, but he's not suited for a relegation scrap either with QPR or Villa. Mind you I suppose he couldn't do much worse than Lambert or Redknapp did this season so who knows.

He has less than 6 months managerial experience, and won half of his games at Spurs, who have much better players than Villa. Just not the right appointment imo

There is no kidding ourselves that we are in trouble and need a manager with a lot of experience behind him to drag us out of this mess..

If we were just starting a new season, Sherwood would have time to gel the players and would have the time to settle and get us playing decent football, but that time is something we don't have..
