I think you're on to something

*Lumsdon did want to punch that Swindon stadium announcer who was walking around the ptch giving it the big'un yesterday.
Come to think of it, you don’t see Carver post during games. Like even when I’m at games i sometimes post something if I have something to say, as do you. But Carver never does, only hours before and after. It’s as if he’s otherwise busy, like on the radio for example.

I wait to see what the final result is before making any comments, no point in bigging us up if we end up losing, would just make me look stupid wouldn't it HG.

You on the other hand though, well, according to you we're always the worst team imaginable before kick off and then we go on and win turning you into the laughing stock of the forum. :smug:

Thankfully having you around means I’m never quite the laughing stock of the forum

Must admit who has time to bloody post during games ? It takes all my concentration just to watch whats going on let alone posting.

Rochdale
Poor game at BP, lit up by a lovely George Lloyd finish. Rochdale the better team in the first, us in the second. Looked very much like they should have had a pen, so we've got away with one there. Rochdale don't look like the worst team in L2 history by any stretch, think they put together some decent passages of play and have a few players who can threaten but their finishing is absolutely woeful. It's almost like panic sets in when they get a sniff of goal. Even Henderson who often bags against us didn't seem like scoring when he came on. I hope they can pull themselves out of this but on that performance and being 5 points adrift, I'm not sure. Will be a shame as they're a good club and they're nowhere near as bad as some of the dross (including us twice) that has been relegated from this division in recent decades.
I think that was our 17th loss by 1 goal. That's why keep hearing "Dale aren't **that** bad" from opposition because most sides arent battering us. We'll often look OK and hold our own for 20-45 mins each game. That'll either be just before we concede or after we are 1-0 down and chase the game. it won't be enough and we lose. Repeat that every game. Last week aside we just seem incapable of putting in a solid 90 mins to grind out a win.
Felt Saturday was a really poor game all around. Not much quality in either side and it felt like 0-0 was coming. But agree with your take that we panic when we have a chance. So many times the ball ended up being booted over and wide of the target.
Games are running out now. Accepted we are down bar a miracle, just hope we arent next season's Scunny or Oldham struggling in NL.

That's worse and more frustrating than just being outright crap in a way, isn't it? It's like having the carrot of survival being dangled. I remember when we last went down, we knew it was coming because we'd been so bad before Hurst took over that it was a relief when we were finally mathematically relegated as every week that we scraped a point or a win once we turned it round just prolonged it. Hopefully you gained some confidence from that win against Stevenage and it wasn't knocked out of you at the weekend.

You won't stuggle as much as Scunny or Oldham, I don't think. Those two clubs have been on a different level of basketcase the last few seasons. I think Bentley could be a decent manager down there and definitely worth sticking with if it's in the club's hands. It's a tough division though, there's less and less crap in it as the years go by as the smaller clubs seem to be getting better and more savvy. Keep poaching players off Alty and that'll serve you though. Mullarkey will be a top player for you if you're down there. A lot of people slate it, but I think it's an enjoyable division if you do well with some great away days.

Tbh it was exactly that when we played you and won 1-0 at dale, from about 15 mins in it was clear your problems (or biggest problem) was the final 3rd, you offered absolutely nothing all game.

Said at HT if we scored 1 we’d win and we did. Like SOC, been there done that and got the t-shirt going down to the conference.

crawley away and harrogate at home will go a long way to deciding how it pans out.

That was exactly us Gills problem pre-Xmas. We weren’t overall “bad” but we had zero threat in the final third. So any team just had to score once against our usually decent defence, and you’d walk away with the points.

In the transfer window we added quality up forward (Hawkins, Nichols, Lapslie) who have all scored a couple and set up a few more. Suddenly, conceding 1 doesn’t mean we’ve lost and that’s a massive difference.

The mindset has changed over the whole squad because of the simple fact we can now score goals, even tho we still aren’t prolific.

Well we have been abject crap for most of the season!

Individually there are players who could be taken from us and do a decent job elsewhere but collectively it's been a shambles. Our keepers have been poor, our defence keeps going missing, I haven't seen a midfield and our attack have been strangers. We have won 7 games this season. Mostly because the other team didnt turn up on the day. One game we have played well for 90 mins and that was Saturday v Harrogate.

The fact we aint relegated already is a bloody miracle!
