As you can tell, there's a theme of wanting to play at home. Our home record was imperious last time we were in the Championship so opting not to travel hundreds of miles on Boxing Day/NYD is high up in my priorities.

don't they try to keep travelling on Boxing Day to a minimum (without having to police loads of derbies I think) for fans?

well we seem to play London clubs (our closest games excluding Ipswich) on Boxing Day anyway.

edit - just looked our last few fixtures on/around Boxing Day: Spurs, Millwall, Fulham, Chelsea, Spurs, Sheff Utd, Millwall, Palace, Charlton, Southend, Sheff Utd, Spurs. So yeah, mostly "local clubs" (London and Southend) or Sheff Utd (random?)

also looked up Newcastle's and you've mostly played Northern teams: Everton, Man Utd, Stoke, Man Utd, Bolton, Man City, Sheff Wed, Wigan, Wigan, Bolton, Liverpool, Blackburn.

Pretty sure Bristol balloon fiesta is a week later this year so....

Newcastle or Villa at home.
Probably end up with Wigan.

Boxing day.
Anyone at home.

New years.
Anyone at Home

Last day.
Any London team away. QPR would be fine again.

I actually didn't know that. I presumed councils and local police were involved in the conversation but as long as it wasn't a derby I didn't realise any conscious effort was made for geography.

I guess the one problem is is that regardless, the minimum is 100 miles (Leeds) with Huddersfield a touch further at 120.

I pity any northern side having to come to us on the first day, the M5 will be an absolute nightmare!! What was it last year, 45 miles of tailbacks wasn't it?

I wish we were playing Derby away on August 6....I'd be confident of the usual good result... probably a win or draw at worst.
