South shields v hebburn got 1827 last night. Absolutely crazy in the northern league second division (step 10). Just shows what a joke north east non league football is. Am sure some confrence or even league two clubs would love these numbers midweek. Yeah south shields are winning all the time but in a poor division where players often aint even paid

I have a feeling it's cheesed off NUFC fans. Bet Gateshead must really hate that.

Was pretty impressed earlier in the season when I was at Dulwich v Enfield, that drew in around 2,300 (more than Dagenham average, about the same as Barnet) albeit a division above South Shields. Some teams in the lower echelons of the pyramid with cracking potential.

South Shields have a relatively wealthy owner, who has brought them back to the town, and funded a very good side for NL Division 2. He has stated his aim is to take them through the Leagues, which is a novelty for Northern League, and they do benefit crowd wise when Newcastle and Sunderland are not at home.

Watch out for B2TF hes bound to moan about South Shields moneybag whores. :bg:

However being a Northern team he may let them off with a minor wobble.

Dulwich Hamlet are an example of a football club that provides just about everything (their) fans want. The appear to have found a way to enable young and old to experience the game and supporting DHFC as they want to with little or no interference or overlap.
It goes to show that, whilst a big factor, winning on the pitch is not always the be all and end all in attracting fans.
Link is to a visit my two sons made. Viewed through the eyes of late teenagers, I admit it's not for everyone, but as you can clearly see in the pictures, whilst allowing the 15-30 year olds (the life blood of any club) significant latititude they also accomodate, families, the elderly and the often forgotten middle aged grumpy bloke just wanting to watch a game of football (i.e. me!)

I absolutely love this.

I stopped being an armchair fan many years ago now and started watching my local non league club for a lot of the reasons you list. It was football how it should be. Our recent rise has been bittersweet for me because, while its amazing what we've achieved, a large number of our supporters seem to have lost sight of what set the club apart. A bit of success and all of a sudden we've had pretty severe abuse aimed at management and selected players when we don't win games, a few (admittedly laughable attempts at) fights amongst home supporters after a recent run of bad form and even partners of players talking to supporters telling them how much of a shitbag the manager is.

Now, I almost fall into the category of "middle aged grumpy bloke just wanting to watch a game of football"...almost because I'm 37 so I'm not quite middle aged yet. The rest of that description sums me up to a tee. I'm not bemoaning the success we've had but if I'm honest I can't be arsed with all the bollocks that comes with it. I love that my hometown club is doing what it's doing but the Sky generation that shouts loudest online and at games have killed any joy in it for me.

So yeah, I love what Dulwich Hamlet are doing. Reminds me a bit of St. Pauli.

I spotted the Dulwich Hamlet attendances last week when checking up on Dorking Wanderers, who had been mentioned in a thread on here early in the season, and wondered if they might have been wrong. Clearly this isn't the case and they regularly get attendances over 1500, which is amazing when compared to many other teams in their division. They are currently in the play-off places, with one game to go, for promotion to the National League South.

It also looks like they are planning to build a new ground, according to an article published today:

Northern League is a waste of time though as all they do is clog up and win the Vase. Nobody has any ambition to get promoted to the NPL Div1 because of travelling costs.... yet Carlisle, Blyth, Gateshead, Hartlepool etc all manage.

If it weren't for backers gateshead would struggle in evo stick because these little tinpot joke northern league clubs would get the good local players. Only the fa can stop this league ruining north east football further by makeing promotion compulsery. Bet the old farts involved with league and clubs are dreading that. Seems more intrest in the northern league than confrence in north east

Problem with Dulwich is that it felt a bit too hipster for my liking. Massive potential though, expect them to hit the Conference National fairly soon. Something else to absolutely praise them for is the constant turnover of players they have going into higher divisions/ Football League. Doing something very right with their player recruitment.
