I didn't find it personally offensive, as I'm heterosexual, but it is indeed a homophobic slur that is no more acceptable than racial or ableist comments. I'm sure we have gay members, who whether they want their sexual orientation to be known or not shouldn't really have to worry about being subjected to bigoted remarks.
