Alright, there's a full explanation of what this is about here.

To recap for both those who are participating and for the rest of you, though:
  • first and foremost, anyone is welcome to vote on these attached videos
  • the format is the same as the European Championships (4 groups of 4, QF, SF, F)
  • videos will be posted in pairs, people should vote for their favourite from each pair by liking the post that it appears in
  • each video has been PM'd to me by a poster participating in this game, after they were assigned a random genre of music or a year
  • each pair of videos (and thus the posters who PM'd them to me) are facing off against each other
  • the poster whose video has the most likes after the deadline has elapsed will receive 3 points.
Hopefully that makes sense. Essentially, videos are going to be posted in pairs. Choose your favourite from each pair by clicking the like button. I will clearly label the matchups.

This is the Group A thread. Group A consists of the following posters:
Stagat
TomPNE94
MSB92
JJH

First round of Group A matches to follow this post.

The deadline will be 24 hours after the final match in Round 1 has been posted.

I'd just like to point out that Match 1 on here was a bit of a nightmare. First off, they both initially PM'd the same tune. Then one of them PM'd Jay-Z and Alicia Keyes Empire State of Mind, which I said was alright as it had both hip hop and RnB elements, but then the other participant PM'd Forgot About Dre. Which, in my opinion is just straight up hip hop. However, I didn't feel comfortable outlawing that and not the Jay-Z tune that also has quite a heavy hip hop sound to it. So apologies for making you two pick THREE times haha!

That is the first round of matches all uploaded, so I'll give you 24 hours (or when I first log on tomorrow, which is likely to be around this same time tomorrow) and then close the voting. After that, I'll upload some tables. Excellent responses so far to all involved and thanks to anyone that voted!

The first match in this group is the only one I haven't voted in, both of them are just too awful.

Alright, voting is now over for the 1st round of matches. TOMPNE94 heads the table, but with two matches left everyone is still in this.

I do like 'Sierra Leone' but 'Centipede' is on my iPod. Easy choice for me.

Had a request to post links to lyrics too, so from this round underneath each song there will be a link to those. However, if it's a piece of classical music or an electronic piece or something with minimal lyrics I won't be doing this.

All square in Group A, as Stagat and MSB92 recorded wins to leapfrog MSB92. Brighteyes defeating Bob Dylan, showing that a well known song isn't always the easiest path to a victory. Tom remains top, but has had his points difference halved.
