On paper, this is the easiest start we could have hoped for. Oldham have only just about managed to cobble together a squad in time. Our only injury worry is Mark Beevers replacement Shaun Hutchinson, who suffered a tight hamstring in the friendly against Brentford on Saturday.

Fear for us we don't tend to do well at Millwall anyway. Chucking together a squad in such a short space of time on a shoestring is no basis for success. A lot of them are just numbers no quality. If we stay up it'll be a remarkable achievement- again.

So having lost every pre season game we start off with a trip to arguably one of the divisions best teams. Can see nothing but a loss here. 2-0 millwall.

Steve Robinson has worked fantastically to get a squad together and avert what was looking like an absolute disaster at one point.

We've got two players more used to Championship football than League One that have given me more confidence for the season in Peter Clarke and Paul Green, to be part of what now looks like a very stable back line and midfield. At this point last year we were still mucking about trialling Gavin Gunning and didn't get what I'd call a proper centre half until Ant Gerrard in February.

However, we are at least a week down on pre-season preparation compared to most teams, and it remains to be seen how much that will hurt us in the opening few weeks.

The manager also knows we badly need an injection of pace, but all we have so far is a lad from non-league we've taken a punt on (Darius Osei).

Billy Mckay has a record of scoring goals wherever he's been a regular, but he's come up empty in our five friendlies. All defeats.

Probably a defeat on Saturday, but I believe in Steve.

We should get hammered here and the "typical latics" trait of getting summat in the unlikeliest of games went out the window when we lost all identity. I have no affinity with this club I honestly couldn't name a realistic starting 11 and don't even know what position most of our players play in.

Annoying news is that Gregory could be out for two to four weeks with a groin strain. Our next three league games are MK Dons (away), Posh (away) and Sheffield United (home). Gulp.
