We beat fellow step 4 team Loughborough Dynamo 3-1 at home.

I wasn't there but apparently we were awful in the first half, fairly lucky to go in at 1-1, and much better in the second. A win is still a win and useful for confidence.

Looking forwards to the start of the season.

You played quite well to be fair, your keeper was particularly impressive. He kept you in it in the first half but you were much better in the 2nd half and we were pretty awful.
He's come a bundle since his loan spell at Boston last season.
Good to know we played well.

I don't want to get ahead of myself but I reckon we'll be at the right end of the table this season.
Our signings have been solid; Smith has brought in a lot of youngsters, either players that couldn't break through at top-level clubs or from the lower leagues.
Got a feeling our main issues will be goals, and we'll really miss Williams as I can't see MBH or either of the Walker's (Dan/Charlie) getting into the 20's.
I think we'll get a good idea come the end of August as our first seven fixtures have a bit of everything - games we should win (Gateshead and Dover at home), difficult away games (Cheltenham, Wrexham), winnable away games (Guiseley, Braintree) and against the VISION.

Not sure we should beat Gateshead, its a winnable game, but not one we should win, after all our record against Gateshead over the last couple of years is poor to be generous.

Defensively we have looked reasonably ok except for the Chelsea game, although we seem to have an issue defending crosses.

Midfield is where we are strongest, we have strength and depth in there.

I am concerned too about us up front, Dan Walker looks good but mainly as a hard worker and someone who will create chances. In terms of scoring I don't believe a striker has scored for us all pre season, which is a major concern and something that we need to sort.

Personally I dont think we will be troubling either end of the table, which would be ok as long as we make progress from last season, but its hard to tell as I dont know how other teams are looking.

Lost 1-4 to Shrewsbury. The score didn't reflect the game - we played well for large parts and their keeper made 2 outstanding saves. We gifted them 2 goals through a GK error and a slip at the back. In the balance of play we looked like we were matching them. Brabin started trying weird things by the end, including Lois Maynard at RB.

Not taking too much from this so far. We've won 4 and lost 4 in pre-season. Haven't a clue what to expect next week. I'd take a 1-0 now.

Also, Courtney Cameron and Mekki played. This time it was Mekki who stole the show. I'd sign both.
The Shrews scored 4 from about 7 efforts on goal. We got one, a cross-come-shot from Mekki from a few more opportunities.
It worries me that Brabin doesn't seem to have worked out his best formation with a week to go. The failure to sign an out and out right-back rather than playing central defenders there is another concern. Not to mention the hapless Scott Davies.

Is that Adam Mekki? If so good to see him impressing, i was disappointed when he left us.
That's the one. He's been on trial all pre-season. A bit selfish at times but think he's done enough to earn a deal. Cameron did very little on the other wing.

We lost 3-1 at Wimbledon in what sounded like our worst performance of pre-season.

Nothing to get too worried about. Bring on Lincoln next Saturday. This may well be the slowest week in ages.

This pre-season is the first time in ages that we've not had 2 or 3 pick up injuries and be out for ages.

I think Wood going off against Norwich was the only injury picked but he played again yesterday.

Rumours that Nicky Law was so disgusted with yesterday at Coalville he is trying to arrange another friendly most probably behind closed doors on Tuesday Night.

Took a couple of games to get going but has settled down now by all accounts.

He was saying Alfreton only trained once a week last season, sometimes not at all?

Yep Completely true. At one point the lads went 6 weeks without a training session. Another reason why we ended up where we did.

Yeah I think a few of the new players have taken a while to get used to training full time but I think that's why the manager got the players early so he could have a full pre-season with them.

Not 100% sure why to be honest mate. I know we used the Shirebrook Academy training facilities as our base and are using them again this season. Perhaps it was through the Winter Months were the outside pitches were hard and out of use?

Hopefully whatever the reasoning we have learnt from it for this season.

Jesus. No training for six weeks ? You wouldn't expect that at Sunday league level.
