Lost 4-3 to FGR, not quite sure what to make of that to be honest.

I hope you Crewe fans don't fall for Davis' comments after the game. Very lazy, and pretty inaccurate, post match comments about us.

You won't find many Crewe fans on here that will fall for the drivel that comes out of that clowns mouth.

What did he say out of interest?

Too physical and relying on set plays..

Well you play Stevenage next week and I suspect they are the same...as are most clubs in League Two?

Oh don't worry, most of us don't. He's full of shit.

This beauty says it all. I mean, this article is the biggest load of bollocks I've ever heard: http://www.crewealex.net/news/article/2016-17/steve-3214772.aspx
This type of article is just to typical of this clueless fuckwit of a manager. "The players weren't ready for it"?! It's your job to get them ready you stupid moron! Footballers are dumb individuals, its up to you to prepare them and get them ready.

"If I had known more about Lincoln". Oh right, yeah, don't do your homework or owt, that would be silly. "I would have started with a bigger team". A bigger team? A bigger team will literally consist of dropping Zoumana Bakayogo and starting Ben Nugent/George Ray. We have no centre forward 6ft or over, we have no CM 6ft or over. He makes it sound as though we've got a bunch of strapping 6ft 4in players waiting on the bench to be used on bigger teams. We haven't. Its just more inexperienced kids.

"If it had been a league game then I would have changed it much earlier and probably would have started with a different team". Liar! You wouldn't have made early changes because for the last 3 years you've never made early changes. And you wouldn't have named a different team because you just admitted you didn't do your homework.

"It was a baptism of fire for some of the younger ones". What younger ones? The only player who has very little experience in the starting XI today was Kirk. The rest have been here 12 months or longer now. If they don't know what to expect by now, they never will!

"We have conceded in the first minute and then conceded another one ten minutes later and we have got to avoid doing that this season and remain in games". Well thank christ we've got a manager who's got his finger on the pulse. We've got to stop conceding early goals, that's his message is it?! Jesus wept.

Yet again we revert to the "blame it on everyone else" go to response when we get humiliated. The bloke has no shame, will happily throw the team under the bus. I dread to think what's to come this season, I really do. So happy I won't be around to witness the carnage.

We weren't really physical at all, we just have a high press, full of energy and got in and around you quickly. We don't play a route one game and you probably had more 6' in your side than us. We had no-one in midfield over 6', for example.

Unfortunately, when you have someone like Rhead up front, who's a handful, the 'physical', 'route one', 'set pieces', 'second balls' clichés come out, which is what he's done.

He also compared it to England vs Iceland in another interview and I can't for the life of me understand where he's coming from.

Lost 1-0 to Walsall and Jack Marriott taken off injured :bg::bg::bg::eye:

Hopefully just a precaution.
Again, not quite sure what to make of this result. I couldn't go, what did you make of the performance?

First half we were ok, passed it fairly well and created a couple of chances to score, Marriott looked sharp again. Second half I thought was very poor though, and Walsall really looked a league above us IMO.

O'Donnell makes a bad error for their goal though so it wasn't like they were cutting us to ribbons or anything but he has to cut that sloppiness from his game, happens far too often and he isn't good enough going forward to get away with it.

Been banging on about it all summer so apologies but we look weak in midfield as I really would have liked us to recruit ther. Second half the lack of wide players became very apparent and we didn't have any to come on and change that for us really, we have sort of boxed ourselves into a corner of playing a certain way now with a narrow midfield, I know Jones wants to play a certain way but we did t really look to have any flexibility at all to me.

Still difficult to draw definitive conclusion as was more or less your normal pre season game, quite flat.

We did some good things but especially after Marriott and Hylton went off we did some pretty poor things too.

The good thing is I trust Jones to get it right but just hope the fans stay with us for long enough this season as its a young side with an inexperienced manager who is learning so we won't get it right all the time.

Drawing some high praise from the City fans impressed with our style of football.

Last season we seemed to play better in the cups against higher league opposition.

Let's hope we have learned to mix and match it a bit better this season.

Really looking forward to Saturday. Carlisle will bring a big noisy following. Full house in the sunshine. Can't wait.

preseason games are a load of bollocks....
they are just training exercises which should be played behind closed doors.
the results bear no resemblance to how the first half dozen games are gonna go...neither do starting lineups .
any fan getting their rocks off because their team has had a good
win against somebody else's second raters needs a reality check

Pre-Season FInale against Blackburn U-23s today, guessing we assumed it would be their first team when it was arranged but they played Girona last night. Good practice ahead ahead of the JPT though.

Beat Blackburn (reserves) 1-0. Only preseason game I've been to and it was shite - potentially the least intense game of football I've ever witnessed and I paid £12 for it. Superb. Phil Parkinson was there with a scout near me watching one of the Blackburn forwards too if any Bolton fans stumble on this post and want some gossip.

My takeaways

still need a centre-back badly - no real issues with Duffy or Hollis and Audel is erratic but ultimately serviceable - notice that none of that is a ringing endorsement though and 4th choice seems to be Mike fucking Edwards who unfortunately looks like never retiring (see Alan Smith too).

I genuinely can not believe we're going into another season with Jon Stead as our main striker and that Adam Campbell is still anywhere near the first team. Sheridan clearly wants to offload McLeod but regardless we need another option because Jon Stead is arthritic, Campbell is turd and Jonno Forte is a hero but he'll likely be injured a lot.

Stanley Aborah is still fucking class.

Me neither!!
I wouldn't be too disheartened by it as the powerhouse that is Forest Green Rovers have already won the National League title this year according to some of their fans.
Humility is not their most redeeming quality unfortunately which is surprising after the way they were bragging all last season only to be taught a lesson in the play off final i thought they may have learned their lesson but sadly not.

You've got to love their optimism though, makes it all the more satisfying when they fail again.
Loved it when ChrisFGR told us how they were gonna put the final nail in the coffin of our 'Operation Promotion shambles', then Chrisblor posted a picture of his middle finger from Wembley in reply after we gave them a football lesson!

With draws against Torquay and Weymouth, the whole league are quaking in their boots.

I would have thought there were enough brain cells in Exeter to understand the sarcasm in my post.

Then again all the students have gone home for summer...

We beat Penrith 3-0 tonight with a mix of first teamers, youth players and trialists.

A couple of the youth lads looked decent, especially Olsen at right back and Salkeld in midfield.

How did the trialist keeper and striker look?

The keeper didn't have a lot to do, but he looked comfortable on the ball and his kicking remained solid. The forward was reasonably fast, and he was willing to chase down defenders throughout. He took his goal well.
