That's the same as saying it would have been pointless to play head height balls to Michael Owen, you play that way because you have the players who are perfect for it. Should have chucked a centre half or two up, be adventurous.. ;)

Well he only played 3 games then Mansfield signed him and we brought in Gowling so I think we made the right choice.

Could do, although the last team he managed over a whole season, Swindon in league 1 14/15 conceded 57 goals In the league and then another 10 in 3 play-off games. On that basis can see him sticking to his attacking principles even if we get a beating or two, although obviously the expectation being higher here might make him tighten us up a bit if we keep conceding. We'll outscore most teams though I reckon.
And how did that season end? Hammered 4-0 by Preston in the final. In hindsight you'd say he should have tightened up.

I look forward to the point you need to secure a play off spot.. A 7-7 draw.

Unless you had tall strikers it didn't work, so he was just useless for us.
Our tactic back when we had Dave Challinor was to launch it into the box, let it be cleared, and then have players on the edge of the box ready to volley it back in. Got us to the League Cup Final, that did!

Didn't he then take Mansfield up though? Might be the season before. I remember our televised game against them though, horrible wet night and he was just peppering our six yard box with his missiles.

Think they dropped him by around January. But Gowling nearly took us up as well.

Yeah I think you're right.

Gowling cost you in the first leg of our Play off semi final at our place right near the end, taking Ormerod's legs as he miss-hit the ball, Ashton scored the penalty and we won 2-1. I'd have had Gowling here though.

Was actually a bit worried we might try and sign Geohaghon, given that Cooper's signed him three times in the past. Luckily he doesn't fit In with our total football so we haven't.

Apart from his throw ins and his size he's pretty shite, would be a complete liability for anyone in this league now he's getting on a bit.

If he could actually pass the ball and had some positional sense he'd easily have been a premier league player.

..Well you tell me what Delap had that Geohaghon didn't then?

Bit of class from Brett Williams there. Poor defending for their goal though.

Premier League defending is overrated. But in all seriousness, Williams has looked the part in pre-season and his finishing has been top class, hoping he can rediscover his form from a couple of seasons ago.

Premier league defending IS overrated, why are you saying that like a joke haha? The fact that Chris Smalling is seen as England's best defender tells you all you need to know.
