Pre season friendlies are dull at the best of times but this was a turgid affair, had a German (?) trialist keeper in goal who looked like it was his first ever footy match, don't know why I bothered going, knew it was going to be crap but it turned out to be worse

Yeah I must admit I'm not a lover of Pre-season friendlies myself, If ye blinked you would probably think who the hell was that on the field, shaking somebody's arm in anticipation saying who's just come on the park. I think we used 20 players against Shildon the other week.

On the other hand you could strike lucky and unearth a gem of a trialist, that makes up for some of the boring friendly matches over the summer. We signed a great lad in August last year Mark Beck from Yeovil Town, 19 goals he managed to score for us in his first season.

I think you definitely need to keep hold of Padraig Amond, that would be a welcome boost.
And the winger Junior Mondal he was once a highly-rated prospect under the guidance of Craig Liddle.
But I think he's been plagued with injuries over the last 12 months, I don't think Boro's Academy have the time and patience to persevere too long with these youngsters. I would imagine other young Boro prospects will be coming through.

Good luck for the coming season

very weird to see Salford play FCUM considering they are in same league and playing each other twice next season anyway.

Was that down to testing their new stadium build for numbers?

Most definitely pretty weird mate Man Utd playing Salford. Ooops, I've got that wrong FC Utd playing Man Utd :pond:Let me think. Oh, that's right got it now Salford played FC Utd! Phew!!!
I get confused they all wear the same shirts, Sorry BigDave!

Probably went down that route testing out Gary Neville's new Mecano Stadium, lets face it if he says jump they say how high. I was their in April when we got hammered by the Class of 92.
The other end of the ground is finished now.

Good luck for the coming season

Was in the youth team a year or two and signed a first team contract in summer 2015. Never made an appearance apart from in the county cup before disappearing without trace around Christmas time.

Think he was originally from Chelmsford so sounds like he moved back down south.

We were beaten 2-1 at home to PNE on Saturday. PNE fielding 2 strong sides in each half.

County took the lead through Jason Oswell, Preston hit back through Callum Robinson and someone else (didn't catch who). Preston much the dominant side. We had a few decent efforts at goal but the difference in class was clear to see.

Onto Ashton United tomorrow night away before we play the Milkmen from Macclesfield on Saturday.

We claimed 3rd place in the Silver Jubilee Cup by beating Hemel Hempstead 3-2. I enjoyed the game as a whole quite entertaining. We played some great football yesterday and maybe couldve/should've had a few more.
Our No.9 Sean Coughlan looks promising just needs a bit of work on his finishing. No.3 Luke Emley (I think his name is) also looks really good down the wing.

Hemel Hempstead maybe couldve got a few more goals if their no.14 wasn't offside everytime the ball came to him. His attitude looked like he was giving up to easily.

In the final Hendon ran out worthy 4-1 winners over Hitchin. Another enjoyable encounter that Hendon deserved to win.

Overall, the 2 days off football were really enjoyable..credit to Hendon for putting it on.

Good luck to Hemel Hempstead (I think we're done with them for this pre season now!), Hendon and Hitchin for the coming seasons

Onto the away trip to Berkhamsted next Saturday. Let's keep that attractive football up!

Beat Spurs U23s 3-1. Great test and a good run out for the lads. Fitness levels and performance were a very high against a younger side.

Got beat tonight against Newcastle Under 23s at the Arena.
Darlington 1 Newcastle Under 23s 2 Attendance 1,775 (triallist B) (Sean Longstaff, Ivan Toney)

Pretty good performance tonight and very unlucky to lose, dominated the second half for long periods.
Scored a cracking goal from a freekick, only to be disallowed for offside. From a triallist which i think could have been (Jordan Richards formerly of Hartlepool & Alfreton) that was very impressive in the second half. Overall a good workout tonight.

We've called off our pre-season game against Ashton due to injuries. Getting the injury excuses in early this season!

Comfortably beat Beckenham Town at the weekend 4-0. After only a couple of friendlies the team looks better than last year, with more energy and creativity. We will be looking to improve on 10th from last season.

We've finally utilised our two club functionality and have deployed squads to both Thurrock FC and Bowers and Pitsea tonight . Cluster bomb tactics will get us out of this tinpot league once and for all.

I didn't go tonight but sounds like we were poor even if it was a mixed team. I'll be popping in later on in the season to see how Burgess is doing, hopefully has a good season with you lot.

Also didn't go tonight but saw Burgess against Derby on Saturday and he looked very promising. If he proves a success then I hope you don't need him back (as I think there's a January recall clause involved)! I also rated Anthony Dudley last season, so if you happen to have a promising strong, target-man (as that's what we really need) that needs some game time please send him our way...

I think we'll only recall him if we have a injury crisis. He didn't look out of place in league 1 tbf last season. Lost a bit of confidence but I think that was due to us being shite and there was too much pressure on him to perform weekly. No tall striker I'm afraid. Dudley is at Salford now isn't he?

Yes, I think we tried to sign him but they offer (much) more £££. Hopefully you remain injury free and the Lee Clark-Steve Watson connection continues to work well for us.

Lost 2-0 at home to a half decent Rotherham XI. Poor first half but grew in to the game as it wore on. Plenty to improve on however.

A good 0-0 with Crewe's first-team. I'd say we outplayed them, especially second-half. A very encouraging pre-season so far aside from the lack of goals. All our signings look good, the trialists perhaps look even better. We had about 8 or 9 on tonight, yet strangely the manager and chief scout were elsewhere!
