Haha, lovely stuff Coventry.

A routine England win and it'll have been a pleasant afternoon.

Definitely a point gained rather than 2 points lost for us today after gifting Gillingham a 2-0 advantage. Didn’t seem anyway back into the contest when Mullin had his penalty saved.

This was a very good win today against a descent team, A bright opening 20 minutes and Fleetwood went deservedly in front. A good equaliser from our visitors and going into the interval all square was a fair reflection of the first half
The Cods upped the ante after the break, it was great to see Kyle Dempsey really buzzing all over the pitch, an excellent game for him and it will do his confidence no end of good
The oldest player on the pitch ( maybe even the league ) scored a lovely headed winner and capped a fine team performance. A good day at the office

I thought it was a fair result between two evenly matched sides, both of whom are likely to be involved in the relegation scrap in all honesty. We were awful playing a 352 in the first half, but improved after the switch to 433 and the introduction of the much-maligned Ollie Banks.

I think we will just about have enough quality and fighting spirit to survive, but it will be a long old season.

We did alright until our clueless manager took our best 2 attacking players on the pitch at the time in Hastie and Morris and went 5 at back then Donny battered us after that. Not first time this season Warne has cost us the game.

nosebleed central - obviously the table means the square root of fuck all this early on, but we have literally never been 1st in the third tier before.

I’ve only seen one game so far (AFCW away) in which we were wildly mediocre, so I can’t see us maintaining our lofty spot if that was representative, but who knows.

1st half, the usual fannying about by the Cods lots of high balls to no effect but for once we managed to score before the opposition did. 2nd half total contrast, Cods kept it on the floor and played to their strengths. Oxford looked like rabbits in the headlights at this change and were fortunate not to concede 2-3 goals during this onslaught. If only the manager and/or players could twig this is how we should play for a whole game we would be a force to be reckoned with. Oxford gave it a good go, but the home win was a fair and justified result.

Both teams were dire last week. We're on course for relegation and you're heading for mid table obscurity.

Horrendous by us yesterday by all accounts.

Quite a polar opposite at the minute between home and away results (if not performances, to be fair), probably the most extreme we've had under Cowley albeit admittedly a small sample size. That's probably partly down to the opposition. Home to Accrington, Southend and Fleetwood is a slightly different proposition to away at Rotherham, Doncaster and Wycombe but we do seem to open up more away from home than in previous seasons.

Definitely need this free week to freshen up a bit.

Oldest in L1 is the evergreen James Coppinger at Donny. Aaron Wilbraham (Dale) is also older than Clarke.

The oldest two in the EFL are Bulman at Stevenage and Ellison at Morecambe (who someone on the L2 bit of this forum said would continue to play "until his last horcrux is destroyed :) )

More points lost from a comfortable winning position. We've gone ahead in all bar one game this season yet only won the once.

I don't really fear for us too much though, we have easily enough quality in the side to finish comfortably mid-table - this is essentially a new team playing together, so it's bound to take a bit of time to hit top gear. We've had a tricky-ish start too looking at the sides we've played. Wycombe at home up next who have started well, but I would still be disappointed not to beat them.

Cowley to Huddersfield is on then after rejecting them last week. Was Wycombe that bad?
Inevitable they'd leave at some point but I'm not sure this is a wise career move. Why turn down Wednesday and WBA but move to Huddersfield? Especially when Danny came out last week and said they'd turned it down. Don't really get it. Either way, they don't owe us anything and they'll go with the best wishes of all Lincoln fans for what they've done here.

I do think he's handed it pretty poorly in the press for the last week or so but hey, we move on.

I think it's weird. He conducts himself very well with the press usually, to publicly come out and say he's rejected them to now switch less than a week later. Out of character.. must be more to it.

Got wind of this late last night that they'd changed their minds.

Bit of a sour ending, IMO.

It'll not change my, or anyone's, opinion on what they've done here but to flatly deny any interest in the job and then take it 5 or 6 days later is hugely disappointing.

Especially as they've always made a point of saying they'd find it difficult to leave a Club during the season because of the work that happens during pre-season and also about the 'small steps'. L1 to Championship is a small step in terms of the division, and it's also a small step in terms league positions at the minute, but they've managed 7(?) L1 games. Feels like a leap, albeit one with a good financial safety net.

The money will obviously be a head turner (£1.5m-£2m a year). That sort of money secures their families for life if they see their contract out. I don't think that'd be their main motive anyway but certainly contribute.

Overall, this doesn't seem particularly DC/NC like to me. That's not to attribute blame anywhere, it just feels like they've jumped a little too early. I can half see the attraction of Huddersfield because they fall under the 'damaged goods' mantra that they adopt (I don't mean that disrespectfully) with having a really, really poor two or three years so they've picked up a team who're at the bottom. Of course, £100m+ of PL money will aide a speedier recovery and you'd certainly trust them with that money. Take the PL money out of it, and I don't think they've have given the job another thought.

My concern is about succession, because we've basically allowed two guys to have the run of the club over the last three years. That's obviously allowed us to enjoy unprecedented levels of success, so it's not like we can complain, but it also has its drawbacks and leaves us a little in the lurch. The same happened to Braintree when they first came here.

Posted on the Lincoln thread, but broadly agree with the two Imps posters above. Who next at Sincil Bank if it does happen?

We'll go for Flynn from Newport, I think. Pretty similar in terms of set piece strength, getting the best out of players, organised, good defensively etc.

As GG says, main concern is the backroom staff. They appointed all of them. They had a complete blank canvas when they came in and were allowed to get rid of anyone and everyone - and they did (not that we had many anyway!).

They'll not take all of them of course, but it's just further upheaval.

I have a really big feeling Flynn is waiting for Warnock to retire at Cardiff and knows if he can take County up he'll get that job when Warnock inevitably leaves in the Summer. He's knocked back a lot of clubs like Notts County and Plymouth before so I can't see him leaving Newport for Lincoln, I think he has a bigger job in mind.

I can't see Lincoln attracting a current League Two manager doing well. So it'll be an out of work manager. Could be one who knows the league well like Derek Adams or Chris Powell or it could be a huge risk like Sol Campbell or maybe even a marquee appointment in Nigel Adkins?

I've always wanted Flynn as Gills manager after a successful playing time here, including as captain. The longer it seems to go on it seems he's destined for better things than us, but it'd be a touch irritating if he went to a fellow League One club while we're stuck with Jabba.

Wouldn't be surprised if Evans applied tbh, he's always touting his name around. Not a chance we'd even consider it, mind.

Going to be extremely interesting to see what happens to Lincoln City's season now once Cowley is confirmed.

Well pointed out young fella !
