Really anonymous for us but was surprised he dropped so low, granted I imagine they pay well, Michael Woods has rocked up there too.

One thing for sure he'll be on a fair whack, bankroll clubs can more or less match league clubs these days.

Smith will join Shields on July 1 after his contract expires with you guys.

If I was fair to shields their crowds are on a par with L2 clubs so can afford similar wages.

It is bankrolled, but unlike many others has a long term purpose for doing so

Be very surprised if the attendances keep up next season especially with both Newcastle now being a money club and gonna go far, and Sunderland who've just went up.

The fanbase is made up disillusioned of Geordies/Mackems.

The only counter point to the Mags now being mega monied is even MORE disillusioned Geordies getting priced out of going to St James looking for their local footy fix.

On a par with L2? They'd be bottom of the crowd table going off this season's figures.

They averaged a good 1800 to 2100.

Add on L2 away support takes that average up a good 5-600 and gates of 2700-3000

And that is without the extra fans who would jump on board I’d easily say they would hit the 3200 Barrow have who sat 15th in overall table.

Salford at the same level with all their Hype averaged 500-800 fans.

How far is South Shields from North Shields as I see North Shields got promoted last season.

I get what you're saying but they wont average 500 away fans and factor in increased ticket prices they might get 2500 to 3000 average. I think the scope for future fans might be more limited with Newcastle becoming a state club and buying trophies.

Good point Rocka, I saw a few games at SJP when Ashley was doing the 2 for 1 season ticket deal. Now the person I used to go with is trying to renew but looks like their section is sold out.

Would the lure of the pub and some dubious stream pull them away from watching Gateshead or Shields though.

Saying that SSFC chairman Geoff Thompson put together a statement a few weeks back. Our progress has come at a great personal price, and I have been prepared to invest several million pounds and under-write six-figure losses each year to aid our rise on and off the pitch.

They averaged 2,126 for the season of 2021-2022.

I'd have to say they don't have no where near 500 away fans. They managed to bring 600 to Darlington for an FA Cup fixture a few years ago.

Might be different in Shields but I grew up in Northumberland which is Mag heartland and a lot of Toon fans turned up their nose at anything that wasn't Premier League, at least round there, pubs rammed and dodgy streams aplenty if no ticket and the shite Internet holds up. Mackems I've come across, always been more receptive to Pools or non league footy. As South Shields is 50-50 I'd reckon their best chance is attracting Sunderland fans and picking up the odd few Mags.

I can only see a load of disillusioned Toon fans if the Saudis somehow alienate the base. They are clever though and know how to get loyalty and provide for their people. They've been doing that in Saudi ever since they seized power and can only see them doing the same at SJP.

Not the NPL Premier but in the NPL East Worksop Town seem to be signing some high profile names Paul Green; James Hanson ; Terry Hawkridge; Sam Wedgbury; Josh Wilde and Hamza Bencherif all were playing higher up last season .

I was reading an article where they had to raise £30,000 that was required to satisfy creditors by the end of the month back in February 2020.

And then the chairman saying 'Worksop Town will be in safe hands, 'says prospective chairman Pete Whitehead.

Have Radcliffe got a bit of money behind them then? Both at an advanced stage of their career now but Joycey for example is only just over a year removed from being a regular for us at L2 level. Adams has always been a classy player too wherever he’s been.
