Ah yes the days when you had 8 years and we had 9 years in League One after both being promoted in 2006 and having to deal with the likes or Forest, Sheff Wed, Sheff Utd, Southampton, Wolves, Leeds. Norwich and Leicester each season who would regularly eclipse everyone else with their much larger budgets and taking the smaller clubs best players.

As you say, next season could be a bit more open if Sheff Wed, Ipswich and Derby all go up..........Having said that we've not played Derby at Pride Park so I would be happy for them to stay down for one more season..............

Not got a clue where we stand injuries wise at the mo. Hopefully a few back in contention tomorrow but can't see us knowing anything until the teams announced tomorrow.

I’d be delighted with a draw at northampton.

They’re usually close affairs between us - having met in the playoffs last season we’ve won 3, northampton by 1 and a draw, we’re also doing pretty well away with 4 wins in the last 5.

We’ve certainly got it in us to get something but given the injuries it’ll be tough

Brentford especially, we used to play them regularly in L1 and I had no feeling that they were in any way a bigger club than us, similar sort of ground, similar attendances, similar league history. We beat them in the JPT final when they had the likes of Toumani Diagouraga playing for them. However they are well run, have invested in new facilities and are well positioned to grow their fanbase (for all that people say about the smaller London clubs having it tough with so many big names around them, they at least have the opportunity to massively increase their fanbase, which we don't).

I feel the same as you do. There's several clubs in a similar bracket who will be looking at Brentford in particular and thinking 'why not us?'. Who in this league has the potential to go from a mediocre existance to 20k attendances and a shot at the big time? I don't really count Bradford as they've been there before but they're an obvious choice to one day get back, but realistically you're looking at clubs who are pretty stable league clubs, located in a decent population density to pick up new fans, and are run sensibly with a plan. You might argue that none of us ever will (and realistically that's more likely), but you never know.

Our ground is about to get a decent revamp - a roof at last on the open Bank and a brand spanking new Town End, 5000 seater I think. Can’t ever see us returning though. That's why I don't tend to put them in the same bracket as Brentford. Brentford had a plan which they've executed beautifully, Bournemouth just chucked huge money at it.

As you say, Brentford had more of a plan and delivered that but in theory, they still owe Benham more than £100m for doing that plan (and perhaps more after the new Stadium, not sure how they financed that), which is less than the circa £160m of owner funding into Bournemouth but still a huge amount!

Yes but at least they now have a production line of excellent talent and a superb facility to show for it. If they ran into trouble financially they could sell a few players and they'd be fine. I'm not sure Bournemouth have got much in their squad that has much sell on value, and their stadium is basically untouched from their League Two days. They just haven't had a plan to take advantage of the PL riches in my opinion.

Brighton are already making ridiculous sums of money from selling their players, I'd say they're probably 18 months/2 years ahead of Brentford on that score and I wouldn't be surprised if they're a profit making club right now which is pretty incredible.

Brentford are to blame for our disjointed recruitment. Fucking moneyball sounds fantastic but is difficult to make work. Whereas they were hoovering up undervalued players for cash, we’ve had to do it via young, free signings and a smattering of punts. But what it has done is finish the over-reliance on loan signings.

I'm not sure you can blame Brentford for your recruitment team to be fair There needs to be an underlying understanding of the process too, and as I understand it Brentford brought in people who knew how it all worked to implement it, they didn't just hand it over to the chief scout and told him to get on with it.

In theory Bournemouth/Poole is the largest conurbation on the south coast, bigger than either Southampton, Portsmouth or Brighton... problem for AFCB is that probably most of that is retired middle class people.

Genuinley concerned we could lose both with Akins as a wing back. He's been very important up top in his actual position. I think if Hewitt isn't going play then we should go to a back 4 tomorrow. Not sure Bowery will be any good in a 4 mind. Fuck sake, Hopefully NC is just not giving too much away and Hewitt at least is fit.

Quite a few Championship clubs are in trouble - possible points deductions, admin, transfer bans. Wigan, after nearly going kaput a couple of years ago, and right back in the shit already.

it’s a rum do when clubs such as ours look up to the likes of Luton as being one to aspire to!

Wigan have deserved to go bust and start back for a long while, have limited sympathy for them.

Was them and Fulham f*caked up the financial side of the lower leagues a long while ago by throwing cash everywhere in the 90’s

Every season Simmo has managed us so far we've been a whole division better the following season and even after he left after getting us promoted to league one in his first spell, the team he left were able to challenge at the top of league one.

Touch wood this time around he gets us promoted and stays with us.

Well his first season with us we did end up a league lower!!

He seems to have one heck of a knack of finding the forward lines for some reason.

Last time with us the forward line was banging teams 4\5-0 most weeks and that good it meant Glenn Murray was just some back-up not frankly needed player.

This time you now have one of L2 top scorers 4th or 5th choice!

Presume the reason Huddersfield are in trouble is that their parachute payments have stopped. That’s what is fucking it up for both those who get and, obviously, those that don’t.

Agreed, Wigan are just a slightly bigger Salford as far as I'm concerned. Fanbase hasn't really got anywhere despite success beyond their wildest dreams, and now they're just meandering from one financial disaster to the next.

They just need to accept they are at best a league one to league two club with a nice fancy ground.

Realistically that is a big improvement, I remember many trips to Springfield park where the crowd was maybe 3,200 and over half of it would be Carlisle fans.

I do miss Springfield park though, but Wigan was never a decent size club, it just got a rich owner at a perfect time in mid 90’s when hardly any clubs spent money and lower league players earned a pittance and used that to push themselves upwards.

Never got to experience the pleasures of Springfield Park but I hear it was unique to say the least. It was actually Wigan who I saw in my first ever live game back in 1995, on the day they had their 'Three Amigos' playing for the first time. Roberto Martinez scored the opener, but I don't think either of the others ever did anything in English football that I can recall.

Thanks for the reminder! But yes it was. They moved into the JJB the season after, think that play-off semi was the last game played at the old ground if memory serves me well.
