Well yes chaps...there is a game tonight, but I very much doubt anyone has realised, and if they have, I very much doubt they could be bothered to start a thread.
But, as I am actually going to this game, I thought I would start what is likely to be the shortest match thread in the board's short history.
In what will go down as the purest definition of end of season irrelevant games, Wrexham will travel to Aldershot in the battle of teams who's end of season report cards will be very similar.....could and should do a damn sight better than they have.
The hosts are relieved to not be having to battle relegation for the first time in several years, but with the entire squad (bar one I believe) out of contract at the end of season and a management team only in temporary charge, the lack of any attention or tv cameras (ahem Williams) will most likely produce a 'Chester' performance rather than a 'Forest Green' one.
The visitors are probably still trying to work out how they haven't managed to win the Trophy and, should they put in the performance I saw from them at Eastleigh, will probably more than make up for that with victory at the famous fortress of football that is the Rec (sarcasm fully intended).
But the bigger question regarding tonights game is surely....why are we bothering?
A win for either team moves them up, erm, no places. Wrexham have to travel miles, fans have to fork out for stupid prices and, whatever happens on the pitch it will have absolutely no bearing on either team come August.
So why don't the two managers get on the phones, toss a coin to see who wins and, in the immortal words of Queenie from Black Adder II....spend the money on a great big party.

You seem to have forgotten to mention tonight's biggest game, the Cheshire Senior Cup Final between outselves and Northwich Victoria. With a crucial game in Torquay on Saturday, I'm certain we'll be putting out a strong side.

I'd disagree the massive game tonight is the Landlords vs Lodgers. Kidderminster vs Worcester in the Worcestershire Senior Cup final

If a match ended up having no accompanying match thread, can anyone really say that it actually took place?

Ah the good old coin toss. We had to actually do that at my golf club a few years ago to settle a match as no date could be set to play due to shit weather. Instead of actually meeting up and tossing the coin in person our captain for some reason decided doing it over the phone was a better idea, and even proceeded to let them toss the coin at the other end of the phone! It gets worse though, we won the toss!

What do you mean, this game is crucial in terms of our attempts to consolidate an impressive 11th place finish. Huge match.

There's a stat flying about that Manny Smith hasn't missed a minute all season in all comps. So tonight is his 60th match of the season. Not sure if it's true.

Well, tonight has confirmed that Saturday's game at Grimsby will be completely useless. We cannot finish anywhere other than 18th, Grimsby cannot finish anywhere other than 3rd.

Any chance Grimsby fans that you could just forefit the game, keep your players fresh for the playoffs and give us the 3 points ;)

Or we could say bollocks and forfeit, saving me a fortune in diesel and time, the club the cost of a coach and we can all just fuck off on holiday early. Job done.

Love too but can we just not play and call it a draw. We have equalled our all time points total in a season so just one more will break a record.

Plus if we don't play it means no one gets injured or suspended.

What we do on Saturday now is irrelevant. We are the Cheshire Senior Cup winners 2014/2015. It doesn't get any bigger than that. Plus its a route in to Europe so we'll be concentrating on that next season now.

The numbers of contributions to this thread have far exceeded my expectations as did the entertainment value on the pitch last night, which was waaaaaaay better than the previous times I have seen Aldershot this season. Whilst still not even close to what is expected I have seen far far worse.
Good to see a bit of the old terrace humour has crept back into the wreck as, on hearing the attendance given out, some wag commented...I hope they have included our back 5 who have been spectators most of the night. A tad unfair, but probably referring to the Wrexham goal, which, whilst well taken, was laughable in it's ease.
Most memorable moment of the night has to go to the referee. Second half and the (I believe) number 5 for Wrexham put in a top drawer tackle, the likes of which has no place in the conference. We had a perfect view and immediately comment what a quality tackle it was. The ref then proceeded to give him a yellow card...clearly aided by his view 50m away (which to be fair to him was about as close as he got to the play all night).
A big cheer at the end of the game from the home faithful....glad for the point?, or merely glad that this abomination of a season is finally over? The players proceeded to do their lap of 'honour' to virtually empty stands with a relieved look on their faces. We can only guess as to why that was.
Till next season Tinpotters...............

Stop trying to big up your cup win.
We all know that our Lincolnshire Cup win this year is much bigger an achievement than your Mickey Mouse one...........:whistle: ;) ;)

Sounds like a we'll be meeting in next seasons National County Cup Winners Cup at some point then. Final to be played at the home ground of the most tin pot club to be knocked out in the first qualifying round.

Brilliant psychology by your captain. Even if they won the toss, they'd have to say they lost it.

We could do, but on second thoughts that would mean missing out on fish and chips up in Grimsby ;)

We've got fish and chips in Basingstoke. And the ones at Crewe are better than Grimsby.
