Liam Noble, obviously.

If you include wingers it's Nicky Clee.
I'll add James Wesolowski in there. based soley on his history as he's only played one game for us so far. Simon Walton has really come into his own after half a dozen games too.

One thing that was confirmed yesterday, is that the best midfielder in this league is NOT Luke Guttridge.

Drissa Traore is in a DIFFERENT LEAGUE.

Same Luke Guttridge who played yesterday despite not being fully fit and for the first time in two months. He tore teams to shreds in August if he can stay fit he will be as influential as anybody in this league.

He was excellent against us in August for sure

Walton was decent at Leeds and very good for a while at Plymouth, combined transfer fees of nearly £2m as well, surprised he's playing at this level at 29.

He's from Wrexham remember. Cheap Tesco ham is what they call the very best quality over there.

You guys were the ones who came up with the Tesco Sandwich chant. I've no idea about the kind of sandwiches Tesco do.
"You're the best way to consume the Unearthed selection from Waitrose and Ocado" is what would come to my mind.

To be fair to all the talented players in this league, they can only really show their best if the players around them are good enough to create the time and space for them to shine. Mostly, due to financial constraints, they are not!

Just stop now, you are making yourself sound more of an ignorant fool. The chant was quality, why you are picking holes in it is anyone's guess.

Probably another bitter, using any excuse to have a dig at FGR.
They do seem to be two a penny in here. :bye:

Guttridge has just been out for about 6-7 weeks with injury. He only played yesterday as we were down to bare bones. When fit, he's a big influence.

Boring debate anyway. Everybody always says their own players as they see them play every week.

Fair point.

But did you see Driss yesterday? Took the piss. Ridiculously good for this level.

All your lot could do, including Guttridge, was keep kicking him. Got no protection from the ref.

For me our central midfield of Noble and Traore is the best at this level. Ever.

Bloody Rhead ruining my weekend and the profits at any local all you can eat buffet he went to after the game...

He was impressive today; Lincoln were very good second half and capitalised on us chasing the game for the last two goals; great swift counters down the our left wing for both. We had 2 decent chances to make it 3-3 but for the bar and a block on the line, but didn't have any other significant chances. The substitution weren't the best from Macca, taking off Mahon (our most effective winger) and Alabi, who may have benefited from having a partner up top for a bit longer. Can easily see why Lincoln are 2nd; Not sure who was better between them and forest green who took the foot off the gas very early.
Good away following also and made plenty of noise.

Moving Sam Hughes to right back cost us. Hughes and Astles are the best central defensive partnership in this league. Why split them up? I think Sam would have made it more difficult for Rhead.

Not sure about that, you've conceded almost twice as many goals as McNulty/ Ihiekwe, Clough/Pinnock and Doe/Staunton. Also thought Barrow's CBs and Johnson/Cresswell were better. You can certainly see the difference when Reda is not available for Eastleigh.

All bar one conceded when Blaine Hudson has been in there. The partnership of Sam Hughes and Ryan Astles as a back two has let in only one goal in seven games.

Of course I'm biased but in my opinion Hughes is the best centre back in this league, haven't seen anybody better yet. He's attracting high attention.

Not seen Hughes (unless he played against us this season?), but Astles couldn't be half of the best defence in the league! He's poor.
As said in the other thread, and above, Eastleigh's pair are practically a League 1 partnership, and our pair have been unbelievable so far.

Thing is we only see our own players on a regular basis, anybody who watches Astles regularly wouldn’t say he’s poor, far from it. It’s a bit like your pair against us back in August, looked like complete and utter comedy acts that night, just look at the two goals we scored, but they are clearly decent.

I remember some Halifax fans saying Heneghan was one of the worst defenders they’d ever seen when they came down here once and laughed their heads off at him but had just caught hin on a bad day.

Not while Hughes has partnered Astles

Best thing I can say about Hughes is that he was only filling in at CB. His best position is centre mid.

Both Astles and Heneghan played very well against us at the Deva last season. In fact without their blocks and last gasp tackles we probably would have won comfortably. Heneghan in particular was more than decent and the rumour was that we were in for him before he decided to go to Motherwell.

Ihiekwe has not played in the last 4 games. Ritchie Sutton (Barrow fans can vouch for his abilities)has been partnering Steveeeeee and we have looked more solid for it, conceding only 1 during those games. As for Hughes and Astles we will see how good they are on Saturday against Mangan and Cook with two good wide players in Dawson and Tollett putting the crosses in.

Can see the McNulty/Sutton pairing being shown up for lack of pace eventually, probably not v Chester though. Don't recall Dawson being a great crosser of the ball and may not start this weekend, but an interesting option to have on the bench. Tollit is good though.

McNulty, Almond, Cook, Dawson;- you going to sign any more former Barrow players to try to make your team better?
not even Cook would get in the current Barrow side.....
Sutton is a class player though - he'd be a good squad player for us
