Wow, as the rich get richer...

£99m for the team that finish bottom, 126 games per season, more Friday night and midweek tv games.

Can't help but feel this should lead to a drop in ticket prices and more help for grassroots football which is dying on it's arse and as the gap between the Prem and FL gets bigger so will the FL. Teams dropping out the Prem will struggle so much after parachute payments stop.

Hey..aslong as the top clubs can give Barca a game ey. Sad times

It should, but it won't. You know that. All this money will go into the back pockets of the players.

Exactly. Gate receipts are some tiny tiny fraction of big teams income, they could let people in for note and it wouldn't really affect their turnover.

No wonder all this foreign investment is desperate to get their hands on a club.

£20 maximum for away games and more into grass roots football so all those who want a game can have a game.

It's never going to happen.

Like what Jamie Carragher is saying on twitter....£20 for each away game....Make travel on night games affordable.

Friday night football is great for the armchair supporters but terrible for the proper supporter....The only way it would work is to make Friday night games local derbies e.g. Chelsea QPR or Liverpool Everton. It's the only way everyone wins. In reality it'll be Sunderland v Spurs.

Gonna cancel Sky Sports at the end of this season. There will be significant price increases at that new deal and paying to line another £20 mill in overated cheat Henry's pockets turns my stomach as it is.

Strange how the mods have let both of these threads run all evening. They're usually right on top of rogue discussions.

Not necessarily true. Until a year or two ago Arsenal made more from matchday income than commercial or media. I think people tend to really underestimate how much clubs can make from ticket sales, it's certainly not a tiny fraction. This table is a few years old but gives a general idea.

It would be very interesting to see a similar table once the latest TV deal has been taken into account.

Apparently we're now more wealthy than Ajax, which is absurd really when you think of the stature and accomplishments of the two clubs.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
The team who finishes bottom of the Premier League will take three times the annual turnover of Championship clubs. Throw in those huge parachute payments and it won't be long before there's just an impassable gap at the top made up of relatively super-rich clubs getting £100m windfalls every year or so.

If you're not in the club, it'll be very hard to break in within a few years. There could be a spate of clubs in financial trouble soon as chairmen gamble to get in there.

No risk no reward. It's good to see the Premier League getting richer and every team in it benefiting.

I don't get this idea that more money will make the Premier League a shut up shop with 20 of the same 25 or so sides. Premier League clubs earn vastly more money than Championship Clubs. In the last few years we have seen numerous sides get relegated form the Premier League to League 1 or below. Portsmouth, Wolves, Sheffield United, Leeds, Charlton etc.

Of those who went down last year they currently sit 17th, 19th and 23rd in the Championship. None of them are coming back up. If anything one or two will go down. Bottom of the league sit Blackpool a top flight side just a couple of years ago. All these receive parachute payments. As far as I am aware none of the current top 5 in the Championship receive any payments. Why will this change? Championship sides feel the effects of the Premier League money as bloated transfer fees are passed down to them. Ulloa and McCormack must have gone for about £20million between them despite not having played top flight football.

Gonna cancel my BT Sports subscription. Fuck em. I've had enough of listening to Michael Owen, watching that bloody Crazy Gang documentary and that annoying tune at the start of their Premier League coverage?

I'd cancel Sky Sports, but they have the fishing on Sky Sports 4. Love me a bit of fishin' on the old tv.

Is that Northampton fan on here now ?

He told me at the last one "the bubble would burst for sure" before the next deal, so I would like his reflection in his prediction :D

And Sky up their prices in June Sports package by £1 a month and Entertainment pack by £1 a month.

it is lucky this ending of monopoly has really helped the consumer with prices.

The £5bn tv deal is about making all the over leveraged clubs solvent again. All the off the books stuff that doesn't appear on their balance sheets.

Just signed up here (Hello again) to say I read about this the other day and it would seem that Sky bid more than they needed or can actually afford. This has lead to Sport package gong up by £1 as they don't want to alienate subscribers who could easily stream for free but more interestingly the family package will be going up by £3 a month to cover it. Apparently too many would complain/leave/stream about a higher raise for sports BUT if you hit the wife and kids there's no question abou paying it :) www.theguardian.com/money/2015/mar/19/sky-raises-sports-and-entertainment-package-prices
