Ben Whitfield's goal today. Gordon said after the game that it was a deliberate free kick routine that they'd come up with yesterday.

If I'm honest, Cheltenham didn't look like champions-elect today. They tore us apart for half an hour when we started 5-3-2 for the first time ever, but after a double substitution before half time, we probably shaded it. We were only ever going to score from set-pieces, and they were always going to win even when we equalised on about 77 mins - it's always our making - but there have been many better away performances at Holker Street this season.

I didn't think Tranmere were shite as "Swedes" suggests earlier in this thread, perhaps a higher standard of football is played at Haig avenue than Prenton Park? I don't know. Southport look like they've got more than enough to stay in this league too and on another day would of gone home with a share of the spoils, bit of a daft penalty to give away.

Another load of bookings and another sending off, we're not a dirty side but seem to be punished for every foul. Worst disciplinary record in the league for about the 4th season running, and at no point have we ever been a dirty side. Shows how ridiculously inconsistent some of the officiating at this level is. These suspensions have and are going to cost us, which is pretty unfair imo.

It was inconsistent. Bennett should have been off early in the second half for elbowing Carrington after already being on a yellow..

I wasn't in attendance.
But the general cheltenham opinion seems to be that we should have gone into the break 3/4 goals up. We missed a penalty and your goalie made some very good saves.

We had to reshuffle the pack at half time with our right back being checked out at hospital for possible concussion. Anyway we struggled with Barrows direct style and could not get the ball down and pass it, but few chances were created.

We eventually conceded from a set piece, but then we did what we do which is grind it out and find a way.

Massive 3 points, difficult place to go.

Yeah, first half hour it was looking like it would be the 6-0 I predicted - we played five at the back and the players just looked confused.
Didn't know about the change at right-back, but I wouldn't say there was a struggle with Barrow's direct play, because the backline just resisted everything from Barrow and there weren't many clear chances.
Grinding it out describes it best, as there wasn't a lot of good football on display. Have to say that your keeper is the worst kicker I've seen in a while! Made ours look decent.

You could have had another red before the ref finally found it in himself to do something. The dirtiest, most cynical side I've seen us play all season.

Their no.3 spent most of the first half against us diving, moaning and fouling, lovely bloke!

Constable was a bit of a twat as well, was looking to pick fights with everyone all day.

Actually thought we were in for a huffing after the first 15 minutes, they played some really nice stuff. After they conceded, their heads totally dropped. I don't think they'll go up.

Last 10 winners:

Barnet - 92 pts
Luton - 101 pts
Mansfield - 95 pts
Fleetwood - 103 pts
Crawley - 105 pts
Stevenage - 99 pts
Burton - 88 pts
Aldershot - 101 pts
Dagenham - 95 pts
Accrington - 91 pts

Only once would 89 pts have been enough. I'd say it's no chance rather than a slim chance. You're also suggesting you'll win 17 more points than us and 16 more points than FGR. Our record is also currently 1 draw in 9, 2 draws in 14, and no defeats in 18. On current form, we're on for 110 pts

We've offered the square root of fuck all in that half, FGR are just swatting us away with ease. Too big, too strong and too savvy for our team of naive lightweights. Sorry Cheltenham fans.

You could have had another red before the ref finally found it in himself to do something. The dirtiest, most cynical side I've seen us play all season.

So first we're too "big strong and savvy" and then literally a few hours later the dirtiest, most cynical side".

For what its worth, i think we completely deserved the red card, and also Racine should have been sent off also.It was a weird game, but we do have a habit of scoring atrociously late goals.

In the first 45, i thought Wrexham were the worst team i've seen this season. We completed swept you aside and could have been 4-0 up. Then we ran out of steam for whatever reason, but managed to save a point. I wouldn't say we were dirty of cynical, just frustration showing.

The 2 halves were like night and day, as you will know seeing as you were there. You were fine when leading and thought it was all too easy, which it was. As soon as you starting shitting yourselves at the sight of a lamppost you started fouling non-stop but you can say savvy, cynical, whatever you want to call it. It was Crawley-esque without the quality.

Now the rage has settled, I can honestly say Tranmere were shite. We're barely creating much, but it took a very dubious penalty for them to turn us over. They had a stronger penalty shout before that but the ref was convinced it was a dive. Other than that the match was largely uneventful, which is a damning indictment of both sides at the moment.
Sounds like sour grapes, and it's not really a true reflection of the game is it? As has been said, it was only poor finishing that stopped it being a far more convincing scoreline. Still, I'd rather read "tranmere were shite" after a win than after a draw or a loss...

No sour grapes at all, I've seen a lot of football at this level and I'd expect to see more from a side challenging for the play-offs. If your fans are happy with that performance it just goes to show how bad things have been for you over the past few years.

I'm yet to be convinced there are anything other than shite teams anywhere in this league. I've watched cheltenham, fgr, grimsby etc and nobody has been impressive. From what I can see, to do well you just have to be less shite than rest.

Complete farce at Halifax yesterday. Game postponed at 1.15, when all the 4 coaches and others had already arrived. I was in West Yorkshire from 9.30 am and it was continual often very heavy rain. Whether it was Halifax, the local ref who said it was 50/50 at 11.00, or the ref who rocked up at 1.00 to postpone it ... not sure, but it was never going to be on. Complete disregard for fans.

Neither can the referees, it would seem......

You know what the refs are like in this league, you get booked for sneezing.

One thing Pennock and Day have always talked about and done is encourage good sportsmanship/behaviour, on and off the pitch, but despite this we keep getting loads of cards.

And yeah I would describe all our players as top lads actually, you couldn't meet a nicer bunch off the pitch, great ambassadors for the club in the community.

I never mentioned 'top lads' that was Son of Cod.

And i agree about the awful standard of refereeing in this league, but to be worst offenders 4 years running says either you are much more unlucky with referees than the rest of us, or are maybe a tad dirtier than you actually think you are?

Maybe, but I think it's more to do with referees having a preconceived idea of what teams are like, based on things like disciplinary records. Because ours has been bad in the past, they seem to be more eager to get the cards out quickly with us whereas opposition teams get away with a lot more.

Jon Parkin is constantly fouled during games and barely gets anything given his way, as does Kurtis Guthrie who usually gets constantly smashed in the back/head going for high balls without ever getting an opponent booked or even getting many free kicks. As soon as he commits a foul, out comes the card.

Well, Burton's win was when only 44 games were played, so, ummmm, no.

Yep. We came second on 86 points that year, but lost the 6 pts we won against Chester,so that's 92. I can't remember if Burton also won twice against Chester, but if they did then they would've had 94 points.

He's well named that fella, pity I missed yesterday the family and I were looking forward to resuming our hostilities with him but other things got in the way.

The year you came second 08/09 on 86 points was a 46 game season, it was the next year 09/10 that Chester were expelled and results wiped off to 44 games, the year Stevenage pissed it with 99 points.

My bad. Like I always say, my memory's poor when it comes to footy, esp. when the U's fail at something :doh:But then again, I can see why I thought it was the same year, as Si Robin said it was Burton who only got 88 pts because they played 44 games. Still, my bad.
