I think we discussed this before, it's great for the big clubs who won't think twice about spending £30mill on subs or signing up all the young prospects because they can whack them on the bench. Not so great for everyone else. But it does offer good tactical options to everyone.

I'm not sure about the other leagues but Serie A allows eleven subs doesn't it?

Good chance for the 'smaller' PL clubs (not that they will exist in 4/5 years time, with the TV money coming in) to give yoof an opportunity, at least to be part of the squad.

But it does seem unnecessary. Players are versatile enough at that level to have the ability to cover 3 or 4 positions on their own!

Not needed, seven players is enough, as said it just allows the richest clubs to spend bigger for their subs bench.

Just might as well use the whole squad like they do in International tournaments..

Seven is enough, some smaller clubs down the football pyramid would be struggling to fill a 9 man bench.

the problem lies there with kids don't need to be named in the squad but cna still play. could end up with 30 players on the sidelines

Sorry but I don't see what all the fuss is about here? It's not a big deal.

I think you should be allowed 9 subs per game, and up to 11 on the bench in total tbh.

In theory I think it should be much more, I don't mind the 11 in Italy.
For practical reasons I won't say unlimited number of players on the bench, but that's where my mind wander.
Back when it was increased to 5, Spurs and United were the those who pushed for it the most, idea behind it was that it would be easier to place a youth player on the bench. Think the decision was a step in the right direction, though I'm not sure how many of the spots have gone to youth which was the main argument.

7 subs on the bench + as many as 4 U21 players is something I could get behind

How about reducing the number of places on the bench to all but youth players who you can have an unlimited number of. 5 (or even lower) bought players and unlimited players to have come through your academy which incentivises clubs to properly use their academies and also (slightly) puts them off just buying all the players they can to fill the squad.

You need a brain check.
