I’m not sure I really agree with canceling it, you have people who rely on this for income and people who only look forward to this all week. I’m not sure what good shutting the nation indoors and lobbing misery down their throats is going to do.

I’m not confident games will be postponed. Any fixtures that fall on the date of her funeral, will.

I believe this comes down to governing bodies. I think the general consensus is that the general public won’t be all that bothered if life just carried on - just not on the date of her funeral/Bank Holiday.

All sports will be cancelled this weekend there is some sort of protocol for it.

They played the day after Prince Philip died and the mid week after the death of Princess Di but this news/event is much bigger I guess ?

Maybe games next week will be moved to the Sunday if the funeral is on the 17th.

I'm sure I was reading this afternoon that the funeral would be ten days after her passing, which would be next Sunday - so I wouldn't be surprised if everything was off all of next weekend. Not convinced about this weekend though given that there are European games going on this evening.

That’s exactly what i was thinking. Given Man United and West Ham home games are still going ahead tonight, it would be a bit weird to then postpone games 2 days later. Fair enough postponing on the day of the funeral if next weekend, I’d understand that.

I watched the start of the United game out of curiosity. No build up, program started with teams in the tunnel and the presenters first words were ‘this is UEFA’s decision to play this game tonight‘ so would have been cancelled if it wasnt a European comp it appears.

In the rugger, Northampton Saints had a cup game tonight which was called off

Stockport County.
Yeah, football and pretty much anything else remotely enjoyable will be cancelled this coming week because we should all be mourning and reflecting on the Queen's death.

Work? Crack on. Stiff upper lip.

Prediction time.

Harrogate aren’t having a great season so really this is a glorious chance to end our terrible record against them. That said, we have been really poor ourselves in recent weeks, so that will have to improve to get anything. Hopefully a full week on the training ground will have addressed at least some of the issues.

Taking all factors into account, I can’t see anything other than a comfortable Harrogate postponement.

Think it’s called the London Bridge protocol and only applies to the death of the reigning monarch

Bring in Lockdown 4, Block all TV Channels apart from BBC, GB News and Talk TV. Don't be half arsed about it.

Fair enough.

I did notice the BBC website didn't have the usual live commentary on the games this evening, instead taking you straight to the match stats page, whilst the two that had been played involving British teams had a couple of sentences for a match report compared to the usual essay.

Well if Fridays game are off then that pretty much confirms Saturday and Sunday will go. Presumably Tuesdays games will be off as well and then if the funeral is next weekend, that will be 3 sets of fixtures to rearrange.

Bit weird for the EFL only to announce for tomorrow and not Saturday what’s the difference?

Our game against Stockport tomorrow night has been postponed. No word on the Saturday fixtures yet.

Edit: just saw somebody posted the same above.

I’ve a feeling it means there’s a chance of games going ahead.

If the EFL manage to bend over and cancel 3 fixtures they’re even weaker than I thought

That did seem a bit strange..

I mean can understand BBC news obliviously having to be on BBC 1 and 2 as I believe its protocol but sure they can keep working in the sports department?

Everyone probably will be at their jobs tomorrow - in fact the postal and rail strikes have been cancelled as a mark of respect.

I think this weekend will be off but they'll mid week and next Saturday if the funeral isn't then as they did in 1997.

Trying to arrange a backlog of 2/3 full fixture programmes across 4 divisions, accomodating the PJT, FA Cup and League Cup (For those still in it) with a World Cup on as well for 4 weeks this side of Christmas is going to cause a few problems - If it comes to this of course.

March has no scheduled midweek games - they'd be sensible moving one (maybe two) of the schedules until then, again if of course it comes to this.

The Premier League fat cat broadcasters at the top will not be happy losing two weekend schedules - Again with the break for the World Cup and other competitions to factor in, re-scheduling games will lose them money.

Whatever the inconvenience to us fans, to the clubs, to the broadcasters and whoever else, they’ll get over it.

Royalist or not, the woman (though she clearly had considerable benefits) served the country for 70 years as queen and more before.

We’ve got an 8,000 or so near sell out against bradford in saturday, but in comparison to what she’s done, the image of the country she’s upheld and basically being a grandma to all, she should be rightfully provided with the relevant respect and send off.
m

if we miss out on a few football matches then heyho, it’s penalty i’m happy to pay in respect to liz. Mansfield and bradford and the rest of us will be around for years to come.

What a thoroughly remarkable individual she was.

God bless the queen.
