Think we deserved the win just about. Jackson seemed wasted out wide, would cause more problems playing centrally with Norwood.

That goal was class at any level from Twine. Inch perfect.

Hopefully the catalyst for some more positive results.

Right about the penalty though. Never a penalty. Although strange to drop ball it to the keeper.
I think it might be a recent rule change. And quite a sensible one.

Oh yes definitely in the rules. The way he resumed the game was correct, just not sure it went to the right player as I thought we picked the loose ball up just before he blew for the penalty. Whoever had it, it wasn’t the keeper. Anyway, that had no impact on the game. Never a penalty, and actually I’m glad we didn’t get it because it would have been a joke of a decision.

Edit. Just to add, thought the ref was fine today. No complaints. Just our keeper.

Has anyone worked out what Lambert is trying to do at Ipswich?

Sunderland the better side overall in this game. Wilks a little naughty on the 'keeper I thought.

Not just what Lambert is trying to do, but the owner as well? 5 year contract!?

As for us, I'd have taken a point from the game with missing 4 starters (3 Covid and McGrandles injured) but missing a penalty as Posh go down to 10 feels like an opportunity missed. Hopper's a big absence or us. He doesn't score lots of goals but he takes a lot of the physical stuff away from others and gives them someone to play off.

Can't imagine Shrewsbury's issues will see our game being on next weekend so our next league game will probably be Gillingham in ten days, by which time we should have everyone back.

We have a decent, if small, squad of players but we are utter shite.

You work it out

3-3. We need a new keeper. He was shit anyway, but he’s getting worse and worse. But unfortunately he’s got his enablers, much like Donald Trump has his enablers in the White House. Absolutely shambolic goalkeeper. Worst 1st choice we’ve had in my lifetime (30 years).

Collis and some of the loan keepers were definitely worse. I am one of his defenders generally but he's going through a bad patch and should probably be taken out of the firing line for a while.

Collis was very poor, and so were a couple of the loanees, in particular Rhys Taylor. But they actually made saves semi regularly. Take routine saves out of it as they are bread and butter for a pro keeper (think Plymouth at home, Rochdale in the 1st half), and by my reckoning, WJ has made 2 saves this season which he shouldn’t have made (Ben Garrett used to make these on a very regular basis btw). Hull and Doncaster away. You could argue P’boro at home, but that only came about because he dropped the ball straight at the feet of their attacker. So I will be very generous and call that half a save. That’s 2 and a half good saves he has made so far this season. Not to mention the lack of meaningful saves he made last year (remember that pitiful montage they put together when he somehow won emerging player of the season). He is undoubtedly excellent with his feet, and without a keeper like that we would not be able to play the way we do. Hence I was able to ignore how bad he was until about a month into this season. But it cannot go on forever. He’s given us a blueprint in how to play out from the back, but we now need a keeper that can actually keep the ball out of the net as well. Be nice if we could have someone that can come and actually catch the ball. Not even Steve Phillips did that! With how relatively solid we are at the back now, and how few shots WJ faces, we should not be conceding a lot of the very weak goals that we are doing.

And finally. Say he was playing for Ipswich or Gillingham when we played them, for example. Do you think we would have lost those games? Would he have made the saves that their keepers made, in particular the Ipswich keeper? I really doubt it. I have no doubt with a decent keeper we could mount a fairly serious play off challenge. Add a goal scorer to the mix and fairly serious turns into very serious.
